Installed ceiling cassette airhandlers for the mini-split. The intakes are a nominal 9X40. Of course that is an odd sized opening for a filter and the filters are like $50+ and don't fit inside the frames. This is in my hanger converted to a woodworking shop. I need to build boxes for 'normal' filters and the use of 16X20 filters would be the same as my current air filter. I do need to protect the coils in the air handlers.
My plan is to have four 16X20 filters for each cassette, horizontal and facing down, ~9' above floor level. That array allows me to support them from a unistrut grid I have installed. When I search for filter frames they seem expensive, ~$35 each. I believe all I need is a simple 16 gauge galvanized frame from steel or AL and some simple clips to hold the filter in place. But $35 seems a little stiff.
Would simple wood frames suffice? Suggestions appreciated.
