Filter-regulator reccomendation?

OK - I'm to the point of hooking up the compressor (5 hp/2-stage/80 gallon Devilbiss) to the air line network I installed as part of my shop renovation - and am looking for filter & regulator recommendation to put at the discharge of the compressor.

Air will be used for "general" shop stuff - air tools, lift support, plasma and etc. Paint work will have a supplemental filter prior to the gun.

Shop isn't as large as what some of you are working with so I used 1/2 inch black pipe (I've read all the threads and stayed away from PVC and other nasty's) and the longest run is approx. 40 ft.

Recommendations (and potential suppliers) for good general purpose filter and regulator will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Lynn in St George UT

I have an ARO FRL that has worked pretty well thus far. No oil in the lubricator, came as 1 unit when I bought the Quincy. Rock solid.

I've got a TP Tools flyer around here somewhere - I'll take a look through it and look around their site on-line also. Thanks

I would recommend Coilhose Pneumatics (CoilHose.com), I installed their regulator and filter. So far these have worked better than any other unit I have had in the past.

Here is the made in USA regulater and filter I bought (I got the heavy duty models)

They can also be purchased from Sears.

heres one made. you can probably find a small 2 gallon tank like this on craigslist for cheap (brand new compressor was only $70). HF sells the dessicant in 5 pound boxes for like $4. i have 25 pounds of it in there, and its maybe only half way filled. other than that, its just finding the right fittings. works better than any expensive air filter you can find.

Keep searching Ebay for filter regulators - Parker, SMC, Wilkerson, Norgren, etc. Be patient & you'll find a deal. I picked up a brand new Parker 1/2" unit for $16 shipped. I spent $6 for a mount at Grainger & I was in business.

Filter regulators are by nature bottlenecks, so I'd say stay away from the 1/4" ports and go with at least a 3/8" & preferably a 1/2". That's what I did, and if I upgrade my compressor (currently a Garage Mate) I won't have to upsize the FR.

6530 has it exactly right. There are industrial quality regulators (like Parker) available on Ebay all the time, new in boxes. they are servicable, and you will pay the same or less than you would for the Chinese **** available from Harbor Freight or Northern tool.

+1 on the 2 posts above. I'm using a Norgren filter and Wilkerson regulator
in 3/4" that will flow way more than my compressor puts out and the dial
regulator makes it easy to adjust.
