Finally got around to doing spider injectors on my 4.3 vortec after about a year of doing more important things. I have two other trucks so it wasn't a necessity, but take a look at the carbon build up on the throttle body. No wonder it ran like **** at low rpm and idle. I've removed a few TB's in my day and never saw one like this. You can also see how filthy the injectors were as well. I upgraded to the MPFI and it was pretty easy. Took 3 hours or so, mainly because of the back breaking position I was working in and it was my first time. Interestingly, I did this entire job with my 1/4" Gearwrench set and a Toptul flex head ratchet I just picked up. There is constantly talk on here about "best sockets for money" and stuff like that, well IMO these are the ticket. I have older Snap On and Craftsman USA 1/4" sockets I could have used, as well as better ratchets, but I've come to really appreciate Gearwrench stuff. I've done a lot with that set. As for the Toptul ratchet, ehhhh.... It wasn't bad, but definitely nothing special. A $15 dollar ratchet is a $15 dollar ratchet I guess. Had I known, I would have bought something that is easier to warranty, if ever necessary. Bottom line, its 72 tooth, flex head, long handle comfort grip ratchet that did the job. Time will tell how long it will last. I just thought I remembered reading Toptul was some kind of miracle brand in the UK or something....

That's dirty stuff there. I worked at a junk yard and use to have to pull engines all day and the 4.3 was a common foe. They are always some of the nastiest specially in the Chevy blazers and 1500's. I've seen km any a dirty throttle body and leaking valve covers and other seal making engine covered in sludge was a he'll of a job worst we're the old diesels that were always covered with sludge and coated in dirt they we're far the worst. To take a motor and ****** out of a blazer I would take the whole body off with fork lift by the seat belts it made it a lot easier had to do 5 vehicles a day and strip them of starters and alternator's and other parts and put them in they're spots it was a pain having to use just hand tools. The rust was unbelievable you learn alot of stuff fast there even had to do German and jap cars. Anyways I love gearwrench they are quality tools but are not that cheap really compared to others but worth it. I got they're flex head ratchet wrenches and love them but for a single replacement wrench at Sears in a small size is like 30 after tax. But for price of a snap on they are a good option as long as you buy a set specially when they have deals.

I had a 1993 Ford F250 7.3L idi diesel with 265K miles and you wanna talk about dirty motor. I went through 2 starters in less than a year because of all the oil that leaked into them. Luckily it had a 1 year warranty! All diesels leak oil, but this thing was bad. Still, after 3k miles it would only be down a quart and it ran like a champ. Tell me that thing ain't sweet though... Sold it last winter. I miss her...

Let's be honest here, everyone knows 7.3s are the best, and maybe they didn't leak, but eventually all the oil pans begin to leak and the turbos leak. I've owned at least five 7.3s and powerstrokes ranging from 93-01 and they all leaked some oil. Maybe up there in motor city they're built better, but here in CT a used, dry, rust free diesel is rare and a pretty penny. I'm talking $10000 for a beat up Cummins with 250k miles.
