The question surrounds prep and testing.
I have read various mfgs. require/suggest testing for the following
4% moisture - Some say 95% of floors fail this test.
Efflorescence - I see some
Hydrostatic Pressure test
Calcium chloride test.
No where to they say where or how to get the stuff required to test. What do I need to worry about.
My garage is 1,000 sq ft. 5 years old
It has the deep angled expansion joints an zero cracks except hairlines in the expansion joints themselves.
The floor appears to have been poured after the foundation for the perimeter as there is a gap of 1/16 inch around the whole thing. Occasionally it will smell musky in the garage in the rainy season. I think the smell comes from this area, but I do not see any moisture or efforescence here. Want to fill these but with what?.
The slab is pretty smooth so when you drop water on it it takes a while to soak in. I don't think anyone ever put a sealer on it. But not like your sidewalk that for sure. Will grinding the floor solve this or should I test for something?
Plastic sheet test. I tape down a 2' x 1.5' piece of clear plastic in a couple spots. Left them for 4 days, never saw any drops of water or moisture on the plastic. But when it was removed the concrete did appear darker. The darkness went away in about 30 mins after removing the plastic. Is this good enough or should I forget about epoxy?
Efflorescence - I have some that shows up from under where the cars park and the AC from the car drips and puddles. A witness mark the size of the puddle. Also get some after mopping the floor around the front edges of the work benches. No I will say this water here is very har and spots glass, tile, very easy.
1. Do you experienced folks see any concerns ? What should I verify?... or should I get off my **** and go pick up the grinder and call Fred.
2. Forget it and do race deck ?
