Too cool to have Tony Schumacher in your shop to see COE project !!

Time to make some 8"x10" copies of your PICS and have Tony autograph them. Then frame and put them up in the shop.

Keep up great work. LOVE it !!

this is awesome , always had a soft spot of big old american trucks after i was introduced to them by a colleague who spotted a few in the carpark at the bakersfield march meets and started going crazy - i guess they were "his thing"

never really see them over here bar the odd unit. We did have a big old early 80s ford wireline unit in the yard for a while - a colleague scooped that up for buttons - on account of we need an hgv licence to drive it here and he had one....

Sorry it has taken me so long to post

I haven't been working on the truck for some time and haven't thought about this thread for almost that long

It was great sharing my place with Tony that evening and the following day we met at the track and he invited me to his hospitality tent where he showed me around and sent me home with a few special trinkets to put into my speed shop
2 signed pistons and the left rear tire from his last run down the track that he signed to me
PRETTY COOL

I've been spending a lot of time on my 62 corvette
and will start a thread on it this week

Simon

Now we can get an idea of how the sleeper will look when my truck gets done
I don't plan on having a slant back bed on mine however.
But I do like the looks of that COE.

Thanks for sharing that Simon
That sleeper is huge. The truck looks great and with the tandum rear axles makes that truck look like a monster truck

I did get my chrome grille back from the plater 14 months later and it is great looking so right after the corvette is painted it's back to work on the truck because I have a trailer queen car in the works and I should be ready to share it in the summer

Thanks again

Thats BIG
My grille looks good I took it apart, drilled out the spot welds that held each bar in place. I filled in the crank hole in the bottom one and had each bar chromed

The old grille intact

Grille disassembled

I finally touched the truck today.
I moved it off the lift to put the corvette up to finish
But I just love the stance of the truck and had to share

I got excited for a moment there Don, when I saw that you'd posted in this thread - I thought that you may have finished the 'vette (holding back the updates to keep the audience interested ) and returned to the COE.

Thanks for the fresh pic though.

Thanks guys
Too many projects to finish before I pull the C.O.E. back in the garage.
I know that it's been a long time since any updates and that's because I haven't worked on the truck in the same time frame.

Simon that was a pretty good video but I didn't like that horse under his sleeper.

I,m bringing back this old thread because it is back on the top of my to do list

My friend that was helping me work on it back in 2017 moved to Texas but called me a month ago and asked if I would consider working on the C.O.E. for the next while when he came back to town. He's here and we are on the truck

So I ran into a problem while last working on the truck. The front tires hit the wheel opening when turning because the wheels are too big for the hole and the front axle is too wide.
After checking with a few tire shops for smaller wheels and tires the thought came to me. "I have the wrong frame under my C.O.E.
And a cure for this problem is to find a smaller frame. AHA I have one out back. It is this old motor home that came into my possession when we had an RV storage co. It is junk with a good 454 motor and running gear.

So today was the start of a new old project, Changing the frame out of the truck
First task was to unbolt the cab and fenders from the frame then to lift it off the frame
IMG_0237.JPGIMG_0238.JPG
Next was to set the cab onto a dolly so we can move it around the shop

IMG_0240.JPG

With that done we went after the 429 ford motor to take it out of the frame (boy is it dusty)

IMG_0243.JPG

Now that the frame is empty it was time to pull it out of the shop and bury it way out back.

IMG_0242.JPG
And with that done we called it a day except we also moved the motor home into the side of the shop so tomorrow we can start tearing it apart to get to the frame and running gear

YOU ****!!!!!!!! Ok, I'm just jealous, I'll admit it. I'm still in the gathering parts stage of my build. 4 big lifts (finish Momma's She Shed, get Momma's dump truck running, new shet metal for Momma's dt, get the shop reorganized) before I can bring mine in. Anyway, good to see some forward movement on this. What are you going to do with the 429?

This project will only be for a short run while my buddy is in town. I'm trying to get him to stay til the end of the year. He is a DJ for many of the larger car shows here in So Cal. and I'm asking him to play at our Christmas parties next month.
The 429 motor was originally built for my 56 ford p/u so it may still go there.
