Picked my self up a DoAll V-36 Band saw. Not sure how old it is. It has the deco look, but doesn't seem to be as old as others I have seen. Ive been on the hunt for a vertical metal cutting band saw for some time now. I practically stole this from a local auction. It is more than I will ever need but you know "the bigger is better" might as well be the official American motto.

This thing doesnt compare at all to A_Pmechs. Maybe one day ill restore it but for now it works well. I am not sure if the blade welder works. Honestly I am not even sure how it works. Just downloaded the manual.

Next project will be making a phase converter so I can power it up.

Here are my home made machinery skates. This thing would still be sitting in the factory it came out of if it wasn't for these.

WOW, that is one hell of a first bandsaw. Here I was expecting some small benchtop job.

We had one of those at school, super smooth and sweet to use. Hopefully the speed mechanism works good on yours.

I am super jealous, congrats. What do you typically make that you will use the saw for?

Finally bought myself a BANDSAW!!!

It needed some emphasis. Far too modest a title. That's the ne plus ultra of bandsaws. Once you learn your way around it and get the blade welder techniques down, you'll be able to cut anything and buy blades in coils.

The one problem is that machine makes a lot of friends. Once folks learn it's there, you'll have a line a the door wanting to cut anything and everything. Hint - watch for stainless. That stuff eats even the toughest blades. Also unknown scrap - some stuff must have come from the armor plate pile. I've had a couple of pieces knock the teeth off Starrett blades.

that is one piece of machinery, and the name suits it well. I did not realize that it really is all that versatile when I saw it on other posts. There were not many photos showing the machine off. I would love to own a DoALL.

Haha thanks guys. It actually came with a fair amount of unused blade rolls in various sizes and tpi. Most are starret and do all brand. You will really hate me when I tell you it only had a 500.00 price tag. I guess I got lucky and caught alot of guys sleeping at the auction.

Weight on it I think is in the 2000lb range with the auxiliary output table and welder.

I need to find info on building a phase converter now.

Great deal, we had one roll through the local state auction here a couple months back for $250 but it was BEAT to say the least, not to mention missing pieces and the welder panel was broken. You scored big

You did very well!

The miter gauge alone goes for more than that on eBay.

There was a bunch of those on Government Liquidation a few years ago, down on the gulf (FL). Rusty but going for $300. Wish I could have gotten one but the hauling to Detroit would have killed it.

I have one at the shop I work at. Has, I think, a 42" throat and double table. It's down right now and I miss it terribly. A hack saw is no substitute.

Not that this ID's a definite year, but the last patent number (2180xxx) was issued in 1939. Awesome machine!

Pat,

That's a nice looking V-36, you got a great deal on it. From what I can see, it's "all original!" Where did you find the machine and do you know if they bought it new?

The serial number says it was built in 1952.

Thanks for verifying the year. It came from a place I believe was called "Hillside Spinning and Stamping" in Union, NJ. I am not sure if they bought it new. I assume they did comparing the ages to other machines in the bldg. Is there a way to track them by who they were sold to?

Call DoAll and provide the serial number. They will be able to tell you who the machine was originally sold to.
