Well I've been wanting to do something with my garage since I moved in my house in September. I finally got a workbench built over the weekend, but I had a little free time this afternoon so I moved it to where I wanted it and started stacking **** on it. The white thing on top was part of some old piece of furniture my wife had. I want to build a real shelf that is the full width of the thing, but this will work for now.

Total cost - $0.00 The wood, screws, and nails were all leftover from a deck we built at my boss's house. That's how I ended up with 6x6 legs for the thing.

Anyway, I think it turned out ok for my first attempt at one. I still want to put a piece of plywood on top of it, and underneath for a shelf, but it can wait. Of course my little helper was right in the middle of it all.

Looks good! my friend has the similar set up with extra pieces of wood from stairs i gave him. We both built work benches, and he even admits, mine looks better lol! I like building extra and useful things with free stuff!

Thanks, yeah there are some things I would have done different if I was buying the exact lumber I wanted, but I couldn't pass it up.

Ultimately I'd like to build a top shelf with a peg board backing to hang some tools on. This is my first garage so I haven't accumulated many tools yet, but with a 1-car garage I'd like to have a place for everything to minimize clutter and leave enough open floor space. Haha, and yes it is pretty heavy.

Yeah my son is about to turn 3 in April. He loves going out in the garage any time I do. When I was his age all I cared about was anything with wheels and a motor. Luckily I think he got my genes.

Yes Sir, The heavy duty lumber is the way to go, unless you weld and have heat concerns. I defy anyone to break it! I am looking forward to building one of my own someday soon.
