Been working in my shop all month with the nice cool and rainy Spring we're having.
Probably a good time to introduce myself. I have a obsession with tinkering. I've been working on getting the wood side of my shop building organized and recently had to replace the cheap portable Craftsman saw I had for 15 or so years. I have some pics of my project list for the month that I've been working on.

It's good to get into a few projects at a time for me so it's not unusual for me to start one and let it set for months until I come back got it. I tend to break off to the shop during winter through spring, leaving summer to be yard kind of projects, shooting events and motorcycle riding.

Here's a lumber cart that I put together in an odd, vertical fashion so I can index through the sheet goods and easily get to my dimensional lumber. It's sitting on (8) 700lb casters and has small shelving in the A Frame to store cut offs. I am playing with a lot of plywood lately and wanted to get a corner of my shop back to where I could get the lumber leaned against the wall sorted out and also mobile. I can move it out of the shop when I'm welding to minimize fire hazards.

This is the stack of **** that evolved against a wall that I wanted to make more easily accessible. This works quite well for my needs. I'm really happy with how this turned out. It's a real time saver to index through my sheetgoods and slide out the sheet I need vs. removing everything in the pile for the sheet I needed underneath.

And this is how it turned out in use.

After that, I put up a french cleat wall and started with some custom cleat tool holders that are almost done.

Anyway, that's enough about me and what I have going on. Just finished a saw sled for my table saw for more accurate cross cuts. This should help speed things up with my portable saw and the infamous miter/fence these things come with.

When I get a bit more time, I need to finish my shop cheiling. It's in the condition I bought it and need to get sometihing hung on the rafters besides the loose insulation stapled between the lower rafters.

LMM: you did a nice job making that wood holder so it will hold your material. you might want to post up pictures on the Woodworking 101 thread and i bet you might find a few useful tips on this fairly new thread. here's the link:

Thanks drivesitfar. I started to do that last night with various step by step pics I took for friends and then lost my post somehow with some type of keyboard shortcut on the laptop. I guess I should have picked "lostmypost" as the profile name.

Everythings in photobucket and sized so I can try again when I'm done sitting in airports in the next few days.

LMM: one thing you might have to do if you are making a long post or thread or it's something i do all the time is check the box next to your handle when you type in your password to log in to GJ. have you been checking that box? if not you can be logged out and a lot of us have lost a few posts before we figured it out.

so don't change your handle/name just yet and just click on that box every time you log in. are you going to post on Woodworking 101 or just make a new thread of your own or maybe a SETTING UP MY WOODSHOP thread or something like that?

ask questions if you need help and there are a lot of helpful members here that if they see your question they'll try to help. beware of the occasional member that wants to BS you too, but thankfully we don't have many of them here.

Thanks DSF,
I just dropped it in the woodworking 101. The content may have been a little crude for that megathread. Some of the content I spot checked was everything from fine furniture making to restoration and some light stuff inbetween. I was leary of starting another thread since the search isn't working for me. It's hard to tell if I'm stepping on someone's thread due to that.

LMM: here's a thought and maybe a good way for you to meet more like minded members. i was going to start a thread about WOOD in general. how to pick types, grain, stains, preparation and so forth and naming it WOOD 101 how we choose types and grains, and how we prepare might be a good name.

anyway i've got plenty of threads and hosting a thread is a fair amount of time and energy, but a lot of fun too.

how about you start that thread cause i know you know at least some of that stuff and maybe you can teach us what you know and maybe others and I can teach you a few things too.

if you need help just ask or PM (private email sort of messaging for members only) if you need any help.

would you like to start that thread and maybe put it in General Tools where I asked Jim to put the Woodworking 101 thread a few months ago that is doing fine there? BTW you can just post up your cool stand on the woodworking 101 thread too and you won't get any bad vibes or you shouldn't.

ok?

good luck and hope you like it here as much as I do!!
