Hello all – Sharing my flooring experience with you guys.. Over the last few weeks I have been researching and watching all the posts in this section. Seems as if most of you guys don’t like the Rustoleum brand floor epoxy. Looking at Homedepot.com I found that it got some decent reviews. While watching for deals, watching this forum and checking craigslist out of bordum, I came across a deal and went with it.
I found someone on craigslist selling 3 kits of the Rustoleum epoxy; 3 is what I needed. Asking price was $100 for all 3 kits; They are $65 plus tax in the store which would have been $211 out the door. Went to Home Depot and bought one gallon of Behr’s Concrete Etcher (991). Blew, swept and rinsed the floor. Mixed the etcher 1:1 with hot water.. I splashed it around and scrubbed it with a hard brush then rinsed it off. (used about half gallon of the etcher; my garage floor was pretty clean prior to starting) Next morning I used the included citrus acid mix in the Rustoleum kits and scrubbed again. Once it dried, I applied the epoxy per the instructions. Turned out pretty good.
Let it dry for 28 hours then applied the Rustoleum Premium Clear Coat kit (needed 1.5 so I bought 2 kits at $94 each).
Here’s a couple pictures I took with my iphone during the process of the epoxy. The last photo is about 10 hours after applying the clear coat.
Both cleaning processes took about 20 mins each; again, my garage floor was pretty clean to begin with. Applying the epoxy to the floor and the edges took about 3 hours; this included mixing and leaving the kits to sit. Clear coat took about 45 minutes to apply. I had a friend brush the edges while I rolled the epoxy on the floor; otherwise, I was solo cleaning and adding the clear coat.
$18 for the Behr 991..
$100 for the epoxy..
$94 x 2 for clear coat..
Total for 660 sq. ft. of floor: $306
Now it’s time to do the walls!
