Finally Done

Long time lurker first time poster. I have learned a lot off of this forum and made many a decisions based on what I have read here. A huge thank you to all of you. I would be happy to answer any questions that anyone might have.

Here are the basics:

56X30X14 Total size
16X30X9 Living Area (kitchen, bedroom, full bath, utility room (washer and dryer)
40X30X14 Garage and Play Area

I have several other pictures of the work as it progressed. Depending on the interest and discussion I can post more.

From raw heavily wooded mountain land to what you see now took 5 years (ugh). Building broke ground 3 1/2 years ago (hired out the heavy excavating and the building of the pole barn shell). The start of finishing out the inside was 2 1/2 years ago. The final finish detailed work took about 9 months. Most of the work was done on weekends only with the exception of vacation weeks. Some of the final stage finishing (drywall, drywall finishing, some trim work, ect was hired out. Everything else was done by my wife and I. Taking a two year break and then building the house.

Very nice! Most members here probably think of their place as a "garage with an attached home." Lol. Please post more pictures, would like to see the construction pix and more of the surrounding area, it looks fantastic. Also, where is it located? What kind of plans do you have for your house? We are taking a little bit of a break to enjoy what we have done so far and then we are going to build a house where the cabin is. Unfortunately the cabin (part of which is a log cabin) must come down. I am going to try and rebuild the log cabin part somewhere else on the property. The rest of the wood I will repurpose (as much as possible). The cabin was originally built somewhere around 1850-1860 and added to as time went on.

No. We have only been staying in the garage since December when the inside of the garage was finished. We have an RV (in one of the pictures I think) that we stayed in while we were building the garage. We only stay there (currently) on the weekends. Unfortunately it is not quite close enough to commute to on a daily basis (it is tempting though). We will build the house in a couple of years and then retire early there full time (if everything goes to plan).

We could live there full time tomorrow if we had to. Just not in our current life style that we have become accustom to (which is probably over rated).
