It's there all the time. It's eliminated with the weed paper. It was recommended due to its draining properties. You don't want something made for inside applications in case it gets wet.
Now, there is some noise from shoes hitting the RD but very minimal.

Now I'm confused. The noise your wife was referring to, the "clacking," is that a sound that's made by Race Deck if it's not applied on top of fabric, as such? I've never seen it that way before and I'm considering installing some in a small utilty space I have but not if it clacks when being walked on.

Or, is the sound she refers to just when the tiles were dropped onto the floor, prior to or during install?

The "clacking" comes from the RD hitting the covered floor. It's a floating floor, so there's some give. The weed paper or if you wanted to, install felt paper, keeps the RD from coming into contact with the covered floor and eliminates the "clacking".

I get it now... haha. I don't know why I couldn't understand, at first. I think I may stray away from RD now. The area I was considering is a high foot-traffic type of room.
