I've been looking for a loooong time for a local Wilton at a reasonable price and I finally found one while searching for a bench grinder.

It's a pretty clean swivel model, model 940?
The date is 11-52.
Jaws appear to be ok.
Paint appears to be original?

I also purchased a Dayton 1/3 HP 6" bench grinder.
I'd been looking for a Balder, but everything local has been expensive.

I'm looking to purchase safety glass for the right side. Any one have a link for a set that will fit the Dayton?

I paid $150 for both. He was asking $150 for the vice and $50 for the grinder.
I offered $150 and there wasn't even a nano second delay before he said "ok".

I'd say you scored. Nice job. I believe MSC has a large variety of wheels.

That is a really good grinder. I do believe you ****. Can't help on safety glass or diamond wheels, never had need of either. Although the diamond wheel sounds nice.

The jaws on your Wilton look to be in great shape, hardly used.

I have the same Dayton grinder. That model is made by Doerr and every bit as smooth running as a Wissota or entry level Baldor. I converted mine to a belt sander for deburring, shown here:

impressive job on the belt sander!
Are you grinding a lot of carbide tooling? What are you using the diamond wheel for?

I was recently given a TIG welder http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=328622 and thought a diamond wheel is what should be used to sharpen the tungsten.
maybe I don't need a diamond wheel.
what should I be using to sharpen my tungsten tips?

Diamond is really nice for tungsten, but very expensive compared to a stone wheel. Pretty much any grinding wheel will sharpen tungsten. The problem is the tungsten is hard enough to groove the wheel easily and makes it a pain to use for other things. I have been known to sharpen my tungsten on an angle grinder with a drill in the field.

You could get a CBN wheel if you wanted to save a couple bucks and still get the performance of the diamond, but you're still looking at a couple hundred bucks.

I'd get a green silicon carbide wheel and call it a day.

Nice "Two-For" score on the Wilton bullet and Dayton grinder. Given the great condition of the vise, agree that you are in YOU **** territory !!

Both of those will clean up nice. Congrats.

No need for expensive diamond.
Buy a hf grinder.
Buy a hf 4 inch diamond.
Clamp grinder in your new vise to use.
$9.99 grinder
$4(?)diamond wheel...

Here's something easier.

Use that grinder with a 6" wheel. On the right side of the right wheel, under the washer, stack on a 4" continuous rim diamond blade. Use that for your tungestens, and it won't interfere at all with the abrasive wheel.
