Hello everyone. I'm new on here and I'm currently in the middle of building a 40x40 shop. Wanted to join for ideas and advice along the way. Here's what I got so far. .

Day 1... I had to dig into my hillside to level my building site. I took a couple breaks to have a beer.

Concrete block retaining wall

Finally level

Frost footing. Rented an mini excavator. Took 4 hours to dig a 36" deep footing. at 12" wide it took about 18 yards of concrete.

Then the rains came. Got 5" of it. Put things on hold for a couple weeks so the ground could dry.

Started forming my floor. Took a few days doing it myself

Just about ready for concrete

concrete done. I put a good thick coat of cure on it. That's why it's so shiny.

This is where I'm currently at. Just starting to insulate and get some tin up.

Thanks, Sunbimmer. I actually only own an acre but my property Butts up to my dad's 40 acres. I got a leanto on the back of my barn that overlooks a 3 acre pond. It's gonna be my "happy place" where I kick back and have a beer

Thanks, Still have a ways to go but I'm getting excited. I like wood working and I've been working in a single wide garage. Gonna love the space.

Great looking start.
Keep the pictures coming.
The more i look at people's builds i wonder if i should do my concrete prep myself. Not saying it looks easy. Just saying i think i could handle it.

Concrete prep isn't difficult. Just take your time and make sure you have it square. I also used a laser when doing my grade and setting my forms.

Those are my door lips for the overhead doors. Just in case rain gets under your doors, if keeps it from getting up on your floor.

I got a couple great tips from my two brothers before building my pole barn.
1. Go with 12ft high overhead doors so you're able to get a camper in your shop.

My brother installed 10ft doors and has to park his camper in the drive.
2. My other brother installed a smaller door adjacent to his large overhead doors and is unable to get a camper in his because the tracks for the smaller door hang down. The solution:

Tracks that are vertical and follow the wall.
Hope these tips help others as well.

As far as updates go, I got my doors all in and just have a little more tin to get up.

No. In the last picture, looking through the barn, you see where I cut into the hillside. I'm going to install a retaining wall there and pour a concrete slab in between the wall and barn. I plan on sloping the slab away from the barn and towards the wall.

Thanks. No, the floors just have a concrete acrylic cure on them. We've had a major temperature change here. Went from 20-30's to almost 60 near the end of last week. The change caused my floors to form condensation.

Anyone else have this problem?
