Gotta love craigslist. It's a 1/3HP Craftsman model 397.19580. From the manual I found online it was built in 1963, so it has me beat by 18 years.

Nice find! Congrats. You got a great deal.

Those vintage CM block grinders are great machines. Nice find on a great machine in very good condition. Nice price, too.

Curious - how would you "fix it?"... The only problem with mine is when I shut it off, it keeps spinning for 2-3 minutes. I'd like to fix it "some day", but not a priority.

I have a 'new' Dayton that takes about 2 minutes to spin down, as well as vintage CM block grinders like yours that take up to 2-3 minutes to spin down also. 1 has had the bearings replaced.
I believe what you are seeing and wanting to "fix" is a sign of a well balanced grinder with good bearings.![]()
Good job! I bought one almost identical off CL a few years back, and I love it. It really removes metal for 1/3 horsepower. The only problem with mine is when I shut it off, it keeps spinning for 2-3 minutes. I'd like to fix it "some day", but not a priority.
