Finally got a real compressor

After a series of Craftsman Oil-less compressors over the years, I decided to move up. I had eaton build me a 3HP (although their 3 seems to perform like most 5HP units from the box stores), 14.5 CFM unit but with a 60 gallon horizontal tank instead of the normal upright configuration. I was sorta in the area today so I picked it up in person. Fortunately, I had a beast of an engine hoist to use to unload it from the bed of my pick-up.
I went horizontal so it will sit under the wall cabinet you see in the bottom picture, between the window and the brooms. Should have time to play electrition later this week and get to some plumbing soon after.

So are you saying that this isn't offered in their regular product line and they built this to your specs?

I enjoyed putting in the lines, but paid (dearly) for my electrician to wire it in.

It's (the 3 cyl, 3HP) only listed online in a vertical set-up, but they do list some of the bigger units with a horizontal tank. When I called with some questions I asked about getting it in a horizontal set-up and was told they had done a few before for people and would do it for the same price as the vertical. And you get to choose your color too. I know industrial grey isn't the most exciting color but my trim and cabinets, etc. are grey. I kinda like that it's something other than red.

That is a really sweet compressor. I am however an outside air compressor person. The noise inside drives me crazy.

Since it seems that the topic of compressor wiring has been common lately....I would like to point out/ask about a couple of things.

Looking at the picture, I'm going to assume that the larger box on the end is the motor starter....and it looks like a manual off/Auto switch on the box? If so, nice option.

Additonally...it appears that the pressure switch in front about in the middle. Correct?

Any chance you can open up the motor starter box and take a pic for us? I'm sure some others would like to see it.

I live in Ma which has the same climate as Mich. I ut my compressor outside in it's own shed. I built onto the side of the garage on top of a cement pad. It was a great investment. It frees up garage space and keeps the compressor where it wants to be in the cold

Nice compressor! Eaton builds good compressors, I haven't heard any real complaints with them. When I get more space someday I'm considering getting one from Eaton. I like the fact they're willing to work with people and even offer them in several colors (I might go for a green one, like mentioned, something different than what you normally see).

I always ruled this out because I live in Massachusetts. How did it do over the winter outside last season? Is your compressor pressure lubed? Did you use any special oil? Is the enclosure heated in any way?
