This has been on my "want list" for about 15 years now but the garage at my old house didn't have enough ceiling clearance. This year we moved into a new house with my "barn garage" which has more than enough ceiling hight.

I went for the bendpak HD-9 4-post lift so that I could move it around with the optional caster kit since I really need the flexibility to move it around.

I did the install myself and shot a bunch of video. Since I don't work too fast and I double and tripple checked everything it took the better part of 3 days to install. I shot video of the whole thing and edited it down to a couple different versions.

*** DISCLAIMER *** don't treat this as a step by step guide! I don't want to be blamed for someone having a car get dropped on them! Treat this as a rough guide to give you an idea of how much work it is to install and to help decide if you want to do an install yourself vs. hiring a professional!

The full detailed version of the install video:

The 2-minute "short attention span" version:

Glad you guys found it informative. Certainly added some effort to film this while I did it and then a big chunk of another day editing down hours of video into something that hopefully isn't too long winded.

Great job. What were your requirements to buy the Bendpak? What other lifts did you look into? Price, quality, local dealer, service?

Wanted to go with a brand name I have at least heard of.... seen several of these in professional shops so figured not a fly by night company that is going to go away. Also, availability of being able to order through several different vendors (I ordered this one through Summit Racing).... I really hate companies that make you jump through hoops and talk to sales people just to find a price and buy something. Beyond that the reasonable price was certainly a concern.

Was happy with the quick and free shipping as well. BendPak has some useful info about the need to either be able to unload it if it is delivered directly to you vs. just going to the shipping depot with a trailer for them to load (which was the option I chose).

Good to hear yours has worked well. Is it the same (or similar) model to mine?

I had a couple of questions on youtube about my installation video. I did a couple more quick videos to address them.

First was about the caster wheels and if they would be easy to build yourself so I did a video showing them in more detail:

The second question was about the ramps, how much they stick out and if they are removable. They are not removable but a quick mod took care of that:

drc42 - I saw where you said you purchased it from Summit Racing. I know there was a group buy a few years back for Bendpak but cant seem to find it. What made you purchase from Summit? Price? Customer service?

FYI, my older HD9 (purchased in 2009) has no provision for holding the ramp hinge rods in place. Just slide them in and call it a day, never had one of them attempt to come out on their own. Same goes for the stops on the other end of the runways.

From what I can see it doesn't seem to make a huge difference who you buy from. No matter who you buy it through it will drop ship directly from Bendpak and (at least when I bought mine) I didn't see any price difference. I already shop with Summit for a lot of other stuff and been happy with them so far so figured might as well order the lift through them.
