Well, I have been slowly adding tools to my collection and am sold on getting tools from the era of solid built USA brands. I have never owned a vise, and now that I am finally adding to the tool collection and seeing the forum's "show me your vise" thread, I was hooked to find the best one I could fast. I scoured craigslist and most of the good ones on there were at least 2 hours away so I kept looking. All the flea market shops had zilch that was vintage Americana, and really no vises to speak of. Today I stopped by a shop where the guy scraps cars and anything else metal. He had a beautiful Wilton which was not for sale, but said he bought one recently for $30 bucks that I could own for the same price. I checked it out, it was an Athol 614. I checked the web quick and learned this was a well made vise. Done deal... Check it out. Only thing I can't figure out is how to date this thing. Not much in the way of documentation on these other than when they were bought out by Starrett in the early 1900's. Any ideas on the age of the vise? It does not mention Starrett any where on it so figure it may be pre-buy out but no clue really. Thanks!

Done deal, great deal on a great vise already generations and if used properly will also be around long after you are taking your dirt nap. Great score!

Congrats!!! Thing of beauty! How long will the wife let you keep it in the living room floor though?
