I've posted a handful of drill presses and a few other things, to get some opinions.

The problem I ran into, was the fact that they sold between the time I found them, to the time I inquired here, and then tried to buy it.

So, this press hit my local CL last night, and I bought it this morning.

Everything seems to be in good shape, it still has a CM belt on it. Aside from a little rust on the stand pipe.

Anyone know an approximate year of manufacture?

Mike: i think your motor looks original and it might have a date stamped in the name plate. not sure, but it might be there. also the Heritage badge dates it late 40's to i think early 60's.

i'm not sure about the date your DP was sent out of the factory so maybe somebody else with one like it or a catalog might see it and know to help.

i just wanted to say congratulations.

Thanks drivesitfar, I'm pretty excited to do some work with it. It will beat having to try and drill perfect holes with a hand held drill.

See you're up here in the PNW. Does your screen name refer to golf?

I'm over in Spokane and play often.

Mike: Yep, that's my EBAY handle that i made up 20 years ago when buying X, ** and *** shafts for my clubs. i used to play a lot and thinking about starting up again now that i can maybe shoot my age. what's your HCP and what course do you play? lots of great spots in your area.

keep an eye open for another pulley holder so you can have the ability to drill slower speeds. Ryan (owner of GJ) actually put a DC motor on his old Craftsman Bandsaw with a cool switch that might work. here's a thread for his Craftsman Drill press that is similar to yours and just bigger in case you want to see one that really shines.

I started a PNW thread in Free Parking you can post on and we can discuss golf or tools or whatever on and here's the link for it.

again nice find with that DP and it's on my short list if i get another DP. since it's your thread i won't post pics of my Walker Turner or Canedy-Otto bench top DP's unless you ask. or pm me with your email and i'll send them to you.

Thanks guys! I thought it was closer to the 50's, after seeing a number of 30's and 40's models come and go.

But heck ya, post some drill press pics. For whatever reason, I just like the look and feel of the old stuff.

I'll jump over the the Free Parking thread to talk golf.

I have a very similar press, it's been good to use. I made two modifications: I put a toggle switch on the right hand side, about where the chrome hook is on yours, to conveniently turn it on and off. I also got a heavy brass link chain like old fashioned bathtub plugs hung from, and attached the key permanently. Saves accidents if you forget and turn it on with the key in the chuck, and you can't misplace the key.

Mike: here's my two drill presses to add some more color to your thread. i could also use the slow pulley for my Walker Turner DP that was restored with 100% original parts by one of the nicest machinists i've met. BTW it also has a chain for the chuck key like SS mentioned.

the other DP is one i picked up that still has original leather belt that is a 1920's Canedy-Otto

Nice Drill Press! Looks like it was really taken care of. What's the story behind it? Was it from an estate? Looks like it was in a home setting. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the pics DIF, those look really cool!

I only got a short story on it. The guy I bought it from claimed to have been demo'ing a barn, and found it under an old wheelbarrow..

He said he was a retired boilermaker, so while stories are great, I had to get moving. I had a bunch of stuff still to do.

His garage was just that. Vehicle storage. So I'd guess it was an easy few bucks for him, and a cool old drill for me.
