Santa decided to reward my year of goodness with a $100 dollar gift card.
I've been suffering from poor lighting in my 24x24 detached garage for 10 years now. The garage was lit by 2 single T12's (One per bay) and 4 can lights over the 16' work bench on the back of the garage. The garage has an open ceiling with OSB walls and it's unheated.
Needless to say, as everyone can already guess. It was pretty dark in there. The fluorescent drop light was my biggest friend when working on the vehicles or my sleds.
I went ahead and purchased 6 4' T8 fixtures and hung them in 3 rows of 2 each. Basically covering the bays and a row in the center of the garage. I also replaced the incandescent bulbs in the can lights with some CFL that were 100 watt equivalent.
All I can say is wow, I can't believe I waited this long to put in some decent lighting. It's so bright in there. Between the T8's and the CFL's there is plenty of light in there. Even my wife agreed, I should have done this a while ago. The gift card helped in the cost. But I ended up spending around $175.
Here are the fixtures I bought.
