For so long now I have been absolutely slammed building things for other people that I literally have not had time to make anything for myself. Finally I said screw it and took a full couple days and built some remnant racks for myself and it felt so good. No pressure, no doing the same ole thing, just doing something I'd been wanting to make and it was really nice. This is made from all scrap material and will hold 20 gauge through 1/4 sheet and plate remnants. Ill make another one that will be identical except it will hold larger than 1/4" plate remnants. Another thing I started building but didn't finish and didn't take a picture of is a sweet tubing/rod/flat/etc rack that has 56 separate cubbies with the smallest compartment size being 8" wide x 4" tall and is 24' deep for better organization. Anyway none if it is anything fancy but its just nice to do something for yourself every once in awhile! Now I better git so I can make my customers happy and put some food on our table.

big creek I know that feeling after years of restoring all kinds of gas station equipment for everyone else and with 60 looming in the not so distance future I told myself I'm building some things for myself...good for you

Enjoy that rack in good health.

I'm sure that you will see an increase in your productivity because you won't have to search for the materials for jobs from a disorganized pile.

It is true I am not working out of a garage ilovevocs. I presently have 6 different places where the sheet rems are stacked up against walls depending on what they are (thickness), but I just built a new shop so am going to do this right. The next rack I build will actually be a cantilever type to hold full 5' x 10' sheets, around 100 of them. As it is I have stacks of skids with the sheet in the shop and also outside on the asphalt but all the steel will be under a 12' tall lean-to at the new shop so the cantilever rack will be perfect. Cue Ill take a picture of the tubing rack when its done but it will be awhile because there is a ton of sheet forming and welding to make this thing up. Im using this particular project to teach my 13 year old how to use the brakes. He has mis-measured twice ruining two sheets of 20 gauge because it wasn't learned of the mistake until after we ran them through the brake but it doesn't matter. He is doing real good and 20 gauge is cheap anyway.
