Hey everyone,
First of all I want to say thank you to all the members who have posted very detailed procedures, reviews, and comments on the prep and installation of their floor coverings. I have been researching and reading for the past month, and all of them have been very helpful. I am so glad I did, because I was almost ready to make the same mistake on my new house of using water based epoxy!
The initial cost of 100% solids epoxy scared me at first; but after reading and researching, it definitely makes sense as this new one is our "semi-forever house". If it was up to me we would eventually buy one across the street that is on the lake; but I think my wife thinks differently
Three car garage, about 730 sq. ft. Not huge; but enough for the wife's car, ski boat, and race car. Truck is too tall to fit; but there is enough room on the side of the house to build another garage!
Anyways, I have chosen Epoxy-Coat and have started prepping the floor last weekend. Swept it, scraped anything sticking up, blew it out, wet it down, straight up Simple green on all the floor, and scrubbed any really dirty areas, then power washed it.
Floor is very smooth, and now determining whether to acid wash or diamond grind it. Think I am going to do an acid wash this coming weekend and see how it does before grinding.
Called Epoxy Coat today and spoke to Jamie. She was very helpful, especially as I saw a picture on their Face Book page, and wanted to duplicate the colors. Picture of what color I am doing is below. Jamie found the customer in their database to get the chip colors, and also suggested adding some silver glitter to really make it pop. And yes, I am clear coating and using the finer 54grit anti-skid (at Jamie's suggestion and the 24 grit is too coarse).
I'll be posting pictures and more updates as it progresses; but again, thank you to all the members who have posted their tips and tricks, and inputs on different flooring!
