Finally! Ready to start garage addition!

Had to go through the process of getting a variance with the hearings and motions and all of that BS... But now we have permits and can get started. I'm adding on to an already fair sized garage in order to get the ceiling height to install a four poster.

This forum has been great in regards to gathering information on equipment and all of the how-to tips that pop up every day. I have a lot of the interesting stuff here. I'll have to sue follow-the-roof track. I'll be installing air lines. Figuring out what lights will work best. All of that good stuff. Went ahead and put a deposit on a lift and compressor this week. So I'm committed!

My garage (built by the previous owner) was actually conceived to house an indoor pool. These folks had a son who became a quadriplegic and used the pool to exercise him. So the front part of the building, was really only designed to be able to park cars. The building has a 2nd floor. Supporting that is a large steel I-beam that runs below the 9 ft ceiling. So any kind of a lift was out of the picture.

The addition will extend half of the garage area out an additional 12 ft. This area will have an open ceiling to a shed roof to give me the height I need.

I'll be asking for help and posting progress reports and pics.

So is the pool still there? Garage with lift and pool. That just might be my dream shop! Good luck on the remodel- looks like one to watch!

Yeah... Unfortunately it's still there. Attached is a pic of a couple years ago when we drained and re-finished it. That's my daughter and her husband in there. One of the few times anyone is ever in it! It's a big pool, 17 ft x 42 ft. A pain to take care of. You don't get leaves or much dirt. But you don't get evaporation or rain. Chemicals build up and don't get diluted. Actually harder to mange than outdoor pools I've had. It would make a heckuva pit though wouldn't it?

If I had a way to get to the back, I would have been tempted to fill it. Plenty of ceiling height for lifts on this side.

Put a four post down in the bottom of it- Drive in with the lift up, then lower. Instant storage.

Ok, so I know for that to work some casters would be necessary, plus many other factors, but it would be pretty cool, huh?

I used to work for a excavation company years back, and we demolished a few pools- Lots of work to do it right, especially if you are taking everything out. I know what you mean about pool maintenance- not cheap or easy. One year's cost for heating, maintenance etc. is about half what you might expect to pay in the Demo. Maybe.
