Finally started my Jeep Garage

Here are some updated photos.

It was just two of us hauling the first two trusses up! Then others friends donated valuable time getting these things up 10 feet. If these things weighed one more pound, I would have hired a crane! CHA_CHING! Thanks to all that helped!! I couldn't have done this without you. I was shorted two trusses by Home Depot. I'm expecting them this week. Next, sheathing.

Looking good!!! Every good Jeep needs it's own garage. Mine was a Jeep. Still says Jeep. I need a sticker for mine that says "It was a Jeep thing----But all that **** broke!!"

Next weekend will be the last weekend of the year, then it get's a full tear down and a GM 6.0 and Stak 3 speed. And yes, it is street legal. I love Texas!!!

Stout....sweet rig.....but street legal? Not the way it is sitting right now....no windshield....which holds the reg sticker....right? But who cares, that is what trailers and tow rigs are for.

Curious though...if going with the 6.0, why not the matching 4L60E? Great ****** and they do very well on the trail. That is what I have with my 5.7 and I'll never go manual again....the 'only' downside I have found so far is coming down off rocks, you don't get the engine braking like a manual gives you....but, I know the 700R can be modified with a lockup switch so I'm thinking you can do the same with a 4L60E.

Oh man all this Jeep talk is killing me! I had a 94 YJ, 33X12.5 Swampers, 4.56 gears, Detroit Lockers front and rear and other various changes. Loved that beast especially in the summer with no doors and roof.

Was always fun in the summer cruising the shore too (that's for John).

Man I miss it, I'll have to find a pic or two.

Great garages too!

PS: Yes I watched the Rat Patrol too as a kid.

Actually the sticker is by the seat on a mount right now were old Sandrails used to put them and I am going to build a mount up on the roll cage. Hard to drive without a windshield though.

It is getting the 4l60e or 80e not sure yet.

When you get that shop built, make sure you get a small weld, you wouldn;t believe how much you will use it.

I was interested in the upper storage, looks like there is some headroom. I am looking to incorporate a very small living area off to one side. We are retired but need something for my tools and stop over for a couple of months, inbetween Arizona & Michigan.

Plans?!?!?! I don't need no stinking plans!
Just kidding. Actually, I just got HD to use their in-house software to generate the basic plan, lumber list. But there old as hell software couldn't incorporate trusses. So we deleted that wood from the order list and they found a local truss company to supply them. I think that the attic trusses were only $115 each. Not bad! but remember they are for 'storage' only. They might be higher if designated 'living space'. If they were any wider, I would have needed poles on the inside. If they weighed one pound more I would have rented a crane! Yes we lifted all 17 trusses by hand! The attic room has 8' head room but remember 12x12 pitch roof. Roofers will charge more for 12x12 pitch. The attic room is 12'X36'. The garage 24'X36' w/ 10' walls plus 12'X20' carport.

Looks good! I'm a Jeep guy myself. I caught this thread from your signature. Nice to see some Jeep guys on here.

I had a 2003 TJ that got out of control. I also had an '01 and we currently have an '06 Commander. Here's the beast at the old house about 3 years ago:

I sold to a friend of a friend in Denver...

My garage just needs paint, flooring, and the temporary lighting needs to go to get the new fixtures in. No time though...typical.

Good Looking Rubi Jeff.......I'm sure you will agree....the Rubicon is about the best platform you can start with....it takes a lot of work to get a CJ or YJ up to the level of a stock rubi....

As I'm sure Dewey will atest to.....it's the last 30% of the project that takes so long......

You also nailed it with all the elect outlets on the back wall.... ....coulda, woulda, shoulda.... you did it correctly.

I think It's going to be OSB for the walls and I'm going to leave the ceiling as is for now. I'd like to spray it white eventually.

So much to do indeed. I think that next I need to focus on the driveway, paint and then the idownstairs insulation and OSB. Then all the really cool stuff.

Yes my next Jeep will be a JK Rubicon 4-door. Someday......

I'd like one more on the ceiling for another electrical cord reel. Plus 4 upstairs and 4 outside (one on three corners and one at the postlight). I just started a thread in the electrial section of GJ.
I now know that Electricians earn their money!

One thing I can tell you: When you do the wall sheathing you WILL hate every one of those boxes you have to cut out for. On mine I used OSB. I set up my sheathing so there was a 2.5' strip over the wire-runs (for future access and to make cutting them out easier). Even with that, it was a multi-day project just getting all the holes cut/placed and trimmed in around the outlets.

Well, I'll also using OSB for interier sheathing. So I placed all the boxes at 48.5" from the floor. This way the bottom course will be full 4x8 sheets and but up against the box and keep the panel .5" off of the concrete floor. I hope that this will prevent any moisture problems. All the cuts for the boxes will be at the edge of the panel. Now that course will diffently take a while! But this should reduce the PITA factor.

I'm not sure that I'll ever be completely done with the garage. I've added workbenches and just finished building cabinets.

Haven't had time this year to add anything to the jeep. I'm now dreaming of the new Wrangler pickup coming out in the next year or two. I'm hoping that it'll be an extended cab simular to the Gladiator concept.

Garage to do list:
1. Add insulation to ceiling
2. Add air lines
3. touch up floor and seal
4. Add vinyl floor molding
5. Finish ceiling

Other projects and holidays keep getting in the way. Oh yeah, then there's work.

On those airlines....make sure you have one to the front of the garage....I have a hose reel at the front and my wife uses it as much as I do.....Where did you put the compressor?

On the floor....right after I got all my drywall up....I cleaned it real good and sealed it with a couple of galons of concrete sealer....3-5 years from now when I'm getting low on projects...I'll strip it and give it an epoxy coat.

All my Jeep mods were done before I even built the garage. The next time I add anything to it I'll post it here though. maybe an overview of past mods w/ pics.

Airlines: I'm going to keep it all on the wall to the right as you look in. On a single plane if you will. The compressor will be outside under the stair landing. The galv. pipe will run in at the back wall, under the workbench, up the wall to about 9', run 6', tee up to hose reel, run another 12' to the front of the shop to another hose reel. The run will be pitched slightly downward for drainage. No real compressor yet but I'd like to get the pipe run in soon. My litttle 6 gal bostitch seems to work well for most things, like building a garage. It won't run air tools though. So I will eventually add a decent compressor.

Floor: This spring I'll empty the shop, clean the floor, touch up the single part epoxy and seal it.
