After lurking and (on and off) hanging around here, I've finally started my garage "remodel".

I'm getting some bids on cabinets and trying to decide what to do with the floor (cheap DIY or full blown professional job). Still undecided on the latter. I'm having a hard time deciding because I live in the Pacific N/W and as you may know it rains a bit here (slight understatement). So, wet cars and floors are a constant in my garage.

I hate to admit it but it took my Wife giving me a swift kick to get me going. I guess she had her fill of me talking about it.

So, I may be asking some questions in the next few weeks, I'll try not to ask any stupid ones but no guarantees...except not to ask the same one twice!

Cheers

J

I've got the same floor issue here in Springfield, Or.

I've cut my choices down to 2 - either leave it as-is (house is only 6 years old, so the concrete's in good shape) or go with a good grade vinyl self-stick tile. I do have experience and good results with the tile indoors. Don't plan on doing a lot of tire scrubbing on the floor surface, so I don't think the vehicles going in and out will be a problem for the tiles.

Good luck with your project!

I thought about self stick tiles too, but them being slippery when wet (as in walking on them) is a concern for me. Also, my office at work has them and moving a file cabinet got some tiles to shift, so that concerns me.

I may opt for living with what I've got too, though I'd really like something all spanky new looking!

I'm not into flashy (an oil stained floor mean some one works there) but, a freind just did a expoxy cover on his floor and damn it looks good and they say it is tough as hell, just something ya all might want to look into....

I'd love to have a neice expoy covering on my floor. I'm just afraid of being the one in a thousand that it won't set up/harden on. Not to mention the thought of spending big money on the floor only to have hot stuff dropping down from the welder or a torch and ruining the floor creates nitemares for me.

I'll stick with my bare concrete.

Yeah, I don't want/need anything flashy, just clean and functional will do. I'm trying to get my self psyched up for a DIY epoxy floor...I still have some reservations though.

I'd do the same if my floor was in decent condition but its pretty ugly!

A buddy of mine in town here did some research and bought the stuff at Home Depot that is made by Rustoleum. Its I believe a epoxy coating.

After talking to a lot of people and keeping in mind it is a DIY project and want to get the best bang for the buck. That is what he decided on and will be doing it after the new floor is completely cured.

Home Depot in Oregon City is where he bought it.

Mm

I had planned to have my garage project completed this week. But now it's going to be next week at the earliest. Without going into details, we had some issues with the floor install. Should be resolved tomorrow (fingers crossed). Then the cabinet installation to follow and moving back in.

I'll try to post up some pictures when it's finally done.

When you price it out, the epoxy coat that you can get at lowes is not much more then the rustoleum product and is not water based. It is twice the flooring that the rustoleum is and can be DIY. There has been quite a few people dealing with tire lift and the rustoleum product.

As always, just my opinion, but I have been looking to do it for quite some time and have done a lot of research.

Yes, the dog is tethered to a kennel that is on wheels but the kennel is attached to the wall so, no run away dog. There is a "man door" on that side of the garage with a doggie door in it that goes out to a 12'X6' roofed kennel. The small kennel on the inside can be latched in place in front of the doggie door so the dog has access to the big kennel outside and a nice warm/cool space in the garage.

And yes that is chocolate beer and yes it is damn good stuff!
