Hello all GJ'ers,

Finally looks like I get to start my garage build.

The demo for the pool has been a challenge to arrange.

Have to take out a pool and have an Engineer certified fill completed before I can get the permit for the structure.

Pictures to follow after I post them somewhere.

Okay, here are a couple of pics.

The garage is going to be 24x36 with a 2 car door on one end and single car door on the other end.

So far, I've demolished a 6 x 8 wooden shed and started on the patio cover removal. Still need to remove the rest of the patio cover, remove the pool filter and plumbing, and move an 8 x 16 shed. :willy_nil

Wow if we'd bought a house with a pool, there is no way my wife would let me fill it in to build a garage :O I'm lucky I have one now, if she got her way it would be more yard :) How did you get that over the line :) ?

Kids are gone and the wife hasn't used the pool in a couple of years. Plus she wants a new car, can't get the car until the garage is done.

Gotta say, this is the first time I've seen a build like this. I'm very interested to see what's involved with expertly filling a pool. I wish you the best of luck. Subscribed!

Still waiting for the demo company to schedule the day to start. One of the tasks to do is move the current 8' X 16' shed 90 degrees to eliminate interference for the build.

Attached are picture of this weekend's move. Amazing what can be accomplished with a few furniture movers and a couple of 2' x 6's.

The fill for the pool has to be certified by a Soils Engineer to be compacted to 1500 something. Not sure what the measure is, maybe lbs / sq. inch. :dunno:

The pool is about 10' deep, looking at AB or crushed concrete as the fill because of the tendency to pack tightly with water and a little compaction.

I can imagine you're excited about the whole thing, but what about your neighbours ? Did any of them complain ?

I'm not trying to dampen your enthusiasm, but there's no way we would get that through city planning :-/

Well the pool is filled in and approved. Seems, filling in pools is more common than I would have guessed.

A few neighbors came by, mostly retired, and commented on all of the activity. All said they rarely use their pools and spend too much to maintain them but would never demo the pool.

Took about 13.5 dump truck loads of AB recycled concrete, compacting every 12" or so, and Soils Engineer testing compaction in order to complete. Done and signed off by the city.

I now have approved plans and a permit for the build. Should start the footings in a week or so.:D

Hi green Jeeper , just finished a 28x32 shop. Front door is 16x9 and rear door 10 x9. It has 10 foot ceilings and a huge rear slab on the back to roll vehicles out when I'm welding on them . Still finishing up some odds and ends. I searched long and hard for info on this style shop, finall got everything straight on how I wanted it. Feel free to ask if you have any questions , mike.
