Finally upgraded my tool cart

Yes gentlemen i know there is a show off your cart thread. Not what i wish to share. for the last couple of years i have gone throguh MANY toolboxes/carts the hard on them + wokring conditions were just instant death to tiiny metals started with a hf (**** imho) then moved to a task force which lasted till the first time i rolled it

Good luck with the Matco one, I've always enjoyed the look of that model!

And I'm still at a loss as to how the Harbor Freight crapped out on you, I know a couple techs who use them day-in, day-out and these things are years old and still going strong.

Nice cart. I picked one up in red a couple weeks ago.
I have no need for it currently but i had to take it as it was a package deal.
Probably gonna sell it at Englishtown in the fall.
What is a fair price for that cart?

I had the HF unit. In addition I have owned two similar Snap-on (older KR and newish KRL carts similar to the ones shown) and now own a Cornwell 7 drawer. The HF was built as good as any of them except the KRL. The KRL was a tiny bit better. I have never had that box pictured though, having owned a bunch of similar quality I can say the amount of abuse needed to reck a HF 4 drawer unit wouls have killed the other "top shelf" ones I have owned.

That model Matco cart is almost industry standard in the shops I've worked in. I see more of those and maybe the old style Snappy carts that were around in the 90's then anything else. Only seen 1-2 HF carts and they are usually owned by guys less committed to being a professional mechanic.

Yeah, we all know how uncommitted hack mechanics just gravitate towards these. I have never seen a new jack mechanic buy a big expensive box only to quit less than a year down the line.

Jesus...thats not highly stereotypical or anything. Plenty of highly succesful techs use them, including myself. I'm all for wickedly cool carts and all, but to me it's a cart, not a box, so I saved a few pennies when buying my HF 4 Drawer.

That cart is way cool. I don't know if it's the handles, the color or the stickers but I really like it. Good luck with it.

$200-350 depending on condition. Has to be mint to hit the top of that range.

When working as semi-pro @home I use HF, for pro use @ work I use a even shittier napa, I found a matco used locally for 400 but he wouldnt sell it unless I proved I was a master tech with at least ten years experience!!!

Yeah, my tongue was firmly planted in my cheek on that one. I use a HF 5 drawer at my work too. Maybe Im uncommitted or maybe not, either way it is a pretty durable cart.

I had that same matco cart as my first "toolbox" and I wish I kept it. I sold it to put money towards my krl761 at the time. Man I could use that thing every day, now I just have that cheap craftsman 2 tray cart with craftsman homeowner casters welded to the bottom of it. It works and hasnt fallen apart yet(since the addition of actual hardware holding it together instead of machine screws).

I would suggest you buy the HF 5-dwr cart and then rework the casters and change over to the pneumatic knobby tire casters.

The cart is a brute and I just changed the hinge system on mine over to the Snap-On chrome lock elbow hinges to get rid of the always failing POS gas shocks.
