Since I stumbled across this place I've been dreaming of a better work area and organization of my tools in the garage. I decided early on that Lista cabinets were the way to go, and I spent a lot of time with graph paper and a scale trying to use the space available as best as possible. I already had a 10' long laminate counter top on some kitchen base cabinets along one wall, with some "ignition" parts cabinets I had kept from my past work in a parts store. I had a Craftsman 5 drawer roller cabinet and 12 drawer chest I had bought as a teenager for my tools. I also had a Craftsman workbench with a few slide type drawers. Storage was a problem and the workbench was small in size.
So after spending time here, seeing what others had done I took the plunge and bought three Lista cabinets, two SC and one DW cabinet. I purchased the Gladiator cabinets to mount above the new workbench on the day after Christmas sale, not the cheap price many of you were able to get, but still a decent deal. I mounted some pegboard between the two in order to hang some frequently used tools. I purchased a couple of outlet strips and cut the cords to length and mounted them to the pegboard as well.
I have not made much progress in organizing the tools in the drawers yet, I have quiet a few new tools coming from Mike at Wren tools, I'm going to wait for them to arrive before I start putting things in place. I used a roll of Yoga mat to line the drawers in the cabinets, since the drawers are 24" deep the same width as the mat, this was really easy. I ordered the thinner (1/8) mat and I'm glad I did, the thicker mat would not have fit between the bottom of the drawers and the raised edge around the drawer sides for the Lista organizers and dividers. Not wanting the further break the bank, I ordered just enough of the Race Deck floor to cover the floor area in the garage that is not under a car. I plan to do the remainder of the floor at a later date, but I'm still a little concerned about all of the grit that ends up on the floor in the garage during the winter.
