Quick story. I just bought my first house. Searched and searched until I found something that fit the bill. I have always wanted a detached garage, but with budget and other wants, and after searching and searching I figured it might not happen. Well, I found a listing about 20 mins further S from our "search area." First thing I noticed was a satellite photo of the property. Big front yard, house, huge backyard, then I saw it....the 2 1/2 car detached tucked away on the back corner of the lot. I quickly looked at the price, details, yada yada. Affordable, spacious, good area, great schools. I HAD TO SEE IT. We were concentrating on newer homes, and I probably skipped over this one before being as it was built in 1956. Wallpaper everywhere, but everything else was updated. Anyway, we looked at it and I put an offer in 30 mins later. My best friend who is a GC and just so happens to live behind this house came over (walked over) for a look and agreed with me. The way it was built, the layout, the yard, the charm. He said if I didn't buy it, he would. Well, we closed on the house on Sept 7th, took a month to upgrade/paint, then moved in beginning of October. WE LOVE the house and I GOT MY GARAGE!!!!!!!! I have wanted a detached garage FOREVER. My own space I guess. The house has an attached, but the lady uses that for her car and other misc things. I will use it as an over-flow if need be :) I am very into motorcycles, trucks, cars, all that stuff. I never had the proper space to work on the things. Driveways, barely standing sheds, you get the idea. Anyway this was a dream come true for me. I have already done a few projects out there and just like to get out there and BS every chance I get. Haven't been here long so haven't done much to the garage at all. It had a couple of cabinets hung, a couple metal shelves, a workbench, thats about it. When spring time approaches I plan to take everything out and make it my own. Quick story wasn't too quick...SORRY. Well, here she is, my man-cave/garage/shop!!

First time cutting the grass on the new tractor....

My baby! When I look at this pic I get mad as you can see, there is NO WAY the truck will fit into the garage. You can also see the neighborhood behind us. Two more houses to the left is my best friends' place. Prior to this home we lived about an hour north so I never saw my friend, now we can hang whenever.

IMG_20121020_151033.jpg

Just kidding...SHE FITS!!! I didnt discover this until recently. Just anytime the truck was close to the garage you could see it would not fit. One night after cutting the grass, I just said F-it. Lifted the door as high as it would go, and slowly pulled the truck in. Seriously 1/4" to spare, BUT IT FITS!!!!

Current heat...actually works very well. Walls are insulated, ceiling is not. I have a fan I want to install up there...maybe help circulate the heat a little better before it escapes. I run the heater with the windows cracked. 20 mins and I am warm. It'll stay warm for about an hour before I have to fire it back up. Works for now, but eventually I'd like to add a nice vented system. In time...in time.

Some toys. Actually the YZ250 was my first project. Complete re-build. Just finished it a few weeks ago.

20120909_144155.jpg

Finished...almost. New graphics and odds and ends, but the freshly built motor runs GREAT!

IMG_20130112_021155.jpg

Well, thats about it, for now. Spring I plan to build a new work bench along with some organizational things such as hangers, shelves and the like. I also want to do a concrete pad out front that wraps around the right side. Then add some lighting and a basketball hoop for the little guys. On the left, I have a funny urge to add-on to the garage. I would like a bay just for the truck. Larger door, more ceiling space. Doing taxes this weekend...we will see!!! In the end I am VERY happy and proud. Like I said, I try to get out there as much as I can. Each time before I turn the lights off, I turn and look in and think "Finally, you got your garage!"

Looks good J-man! Just make sure you prop your door open till you get an opener, If the door drifts back down while you're backing out..you'll be hating life!!

Haha no kidding. I just push it up above the header and wedge a screw between the wheel and track. Tomorrow I plan to cut a 2x4 to do the deed. I'd love an opener, but not sure I could "rig" it it to open as far as I need it to.

Love the YZ! Do you any good trails or tracks near?

Thanks man. Its def a fun bike. A buddy of mine has some serious acreage in PA. He used to be a circle track racer. He has a giant circle track, trails, creek crossings, runway for his ultra-lite aka the drag strip. He also has a giant shop where he does nothing but motorcycle repairs. Its like a man-paradise. We BS and ride all day. We also have a couple of MX tracks around. 1 is about 30 mins north and the other is an hour south. Both are great!

Nice!! Nothing like a detached. I built mine 20 years ago. Super nice to have your own space. I remember when my kids had a PW. Freaking thing hurt me worse than any real bike I ever rode. Stuck a peg in the ground in a turn. Like to have killed me. :lol_hitti

J-man, your garage is like a pharmacy:)
Having the garage usually means that a person’s car is safe and cannot be touched by the elements and the power of nature. Well, ‘usually’ is becoming less and less common as people use their garages for any reason but not to keep the automobile away from rain, wind, bird excrement and everything else that cannot come inside of the garage but is a constant in the open.

Congrats on the new home and better yet, a garage for you alone.

Is the grass cutting picture recent ? Most of us aren't cutting grass in Feb.

Awesome love it! I have a crf250 myself. Used to have a 2001 YZ250 and that bike ripped!

Yes, they sure do rip. I have an extra cylinder that I want to get work done to it. There is a guy that does great work making them 295cc's. He also does some porting and head work. Provides a little more low-end...that would be FUUUUN!!!

It is nice to get away for a little while. I just need a stereo now!! I'll be honest, I think my 200lb *** has more time on the PW then I do on my 250. My son is still on training wheels, but its still a blast to rip around the yard on. I know what you mean about it wanting to kill you. I flipped it once (

Sounds like paradise!

It is a good time. I noticed in your build thread that you had a couple MX helmets on your cabinets. Do you ride dirt? Also, meant to comment on your thread that I love the R1. I had a 04 636 that I miss STILL to this day.

The opener should hold that door open for you!! May have to adjust the springs a bit.

That is true...we will see. The door doesn't get opened/closed too often so might not be able to justify an opener at the moment. Have plenty of other projects opener money could go to.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out.

That's great - congratulations!

Having a GC buddy over the fence is just icing on the cake!

Thanks man! Def nice to have him around. I am pretty handy, but he can do some serious work.

I care next to nothing about bikes, but I really dig that truck you have :rocker:

Would love to own a beast like that, however I live in The Netherlands...

Thanks man! I love the truck too. I wanted a lifted beast like that since I was 5. She is thirsty though...hence the reason she is parked out in the back garage haha. I drive it once or twice a week and take it to get dirty. Netherlands have strict auto/pollution laws?

This is why I am so happy about the garage. I installed the lift in my parent's driveway in late November.

Hows come I can't see any pics?

Not sure, they appear for me and others...

Congrats on the new home and better yet, a garage for you alone.

Thanks man!! No, the picture was taken in Sept. There is snow on the ground now. Looking forward to spring though. Don't tell the wife, but I absolutely love being outside for 4 hours straight taking care of the yard each week. She honestly thinks I hate it, haha. ipod, a beer, and away I go!

I like it :)

Thanks.

Nice, my mate had a YZ 490, that was rapid!!!!

I can only imagine. Actually, I can't. That just seems like suicide haha. I have ridden a lot of fast bikes, but this 250 has scared me more times that I care to tell. My buddy is nursing a KX500 build and I think I know why haha.

Now time to install a good security sytem before you completely fill it up with goodies!

Yes, that is on the list. The garage is tucked in the back corner of the lot so it is a little distance away from the house. I would have no clue if someone broke in during the night. Now I am really worried, THANKS!!!!

my internet is FUBAR so I cant see the pics but it sounds great! congradutaions!

Thanks man, not sure why they are not showing for a couple of guys.

Happy for ya Bud. I know the feeling! Life is Good.

Thanks dude...indeed it is!

Everybody hates to mow and yard work, thats why nobody will bother you when you're doing it. They're afraid they'll have to lend a hand if they bug you. . . . . it's peacefulness at it's finest.

BTW any chance you're going to add a general location under your screen name ?

Well we we have pollution laws (you may not even enter some cities in a car like this),gasguzzler tax (you pay much higher fees if you own a car like this) road tax (you pay by weight of the car), gas tax, tax over the gas tax and whatever more.
If you wanna drive a car like this you need to have a very well paid job
I love these beasts and the place you've got over there in the US or Canada to drive around in them. :)

Haha, sounds like you "hate" yard work as well! Just updated my location. Good ole Delaware...

Wow, worse then California and they are the most strict in this country. Well, they do prevent pollution so thats good. Im not sure I would pay those premiums to drive a big truck. If you ever make it over I'll let you drive through some mud!

Not everyone. I love to mow. It's about the only time you can get away when the people WON'T bother you. A 6'er in the cooler, some headphones, and about 7 acres and I'm good to go. I find it relaxing and it gives me some time to iron out problems and collect my thoughts. :rocker:

Just make sure you keep the door in adjustment. It'd be a shame that it would loosen up some and after driving in and out a few times forgetting about it and tear the top of the truck up.

Nice looking truck also!!!!

It's not a matter of not willing to pay, I just can not pay the premiums.
The above was only about taxes to pay and there's another one called insurance  you will not believe what they charge for that :scared:
Now that about me driving your truck, that is officially noted :D

If you work in the softer world of computers like some of us do, Cutting your grass and snowblowing your driveway also give you the nice benefit of being able to have tangible results to be proud of.

My wife knows I love it but can't understand why I feel the need to cut the grass more than once a week or go out days after cleaning up from a snow storm (MA. --Had 27 inches and 4 foot drifts against my garage door last Saturday) to square up the corners and make sure the drieway is showing 100% blacktop.

--Just singed contract last night to add 3 bays (24' x 44' new space) to my existing 2 car attached. This site is inspiring

Another good way to get it in, air down the tires. Of course you'd have to fill them back up once you take it back out. Might help in the future.

What size is your garae it? It looks pretty close to mine which is a 24x24.

Just measured and you are correct!

Haha I am the same way man. Wow, plans sound amazing! Im in early planning stages of another large bay to the left. Id love a lift. I have 35' from that side to the property line so have the space. This place is more then inspiring!

We were just being sarcastic. I personally looooove to mow. It started very young for me. 4 I'd say. Been a passion since. Its a break from life.

I was actually thinking that early on! I knew that would be a pain so forgot about it. I wanted 37s next but that would completely kill any chance of fitting in there. Having said that, meet compressor

IMG_20130307_215846.jpg

Wasn't on my radar. I was looking for something larger tanked, and pumped. I found this on CL and figured at such a great deal, why not. I don't really need anything crazy so this will do until next time. 33 gallon, 2hp, 150psi. Guy threw in an impact set and hose. All brand new. Said he got it through a work program and never used it as he didn't have a garage for it. Broke it in, filled it up and filled every tire I had in the garage. I love new toys! The woman is hinting at something big for my 30th! All I want is permission for a giant bay on the left side!
