Pulled the trigger and started the garage I've wanted for a lifetime. Looked at steel and seriously considered Allied out of Florida, ( I believe), With the size I WANTED to put in, (30x60), but when the wife saw a building up close with the same dimensions she just did not want it in our yard. Thought it would make it look like a commercial lot.. Property is .97 acre.
A friend of mine in our Bass Club gave me a great price for a 32 x 40 stick built so I said get'er done.
Took down some trees, Pulled some stumps, had the footings dug and poured as well as the foundation. The walls are up and they pushedup the gable ends today so it is coming along.

So many questions though.

How many amps did you run to your garage ? I have heard from 40 to 100..

How many windows? I didn't want anything low except on the house side so I had him put four awning windows on the far side and back. Three double hung on the near side and gable end in back.

Should I put in a lift to help with room? four point or ramp style?

Should I seal the floor in some manner?

Had them frame in a hay door in the front for looks, I just hope it is weatherproof..

Awnings over the garage doors? yes or no?

You'll be surprised how quickly that space will fill up with "Stuff". Flat roof or peaked? I'd be concerned about the snow load if flat. Use the highest "R" value insulation as the temps up there have a wide variation from Summer to Winter. Did ya bury the power lines to avoid ice loading come Winter? If it were me, I the I'd get at least a 100 amp service as you never know about future needs.

Planning on putting a trolley on the "I" beam?

A real nice start you have going on there. Who many windows do you want? How many amps do you need? Are you going to do anything on the floor.? Do you want awnings? Did you tell them to seal the hay door? A lift....do you want a lift? Do you have enough headroom for a lift? Do you have the money for a lift? So many questions. A lot of these questions come down to a personal choice, as the number of windows, awnings, etc. as far as electrical feed goes....what will you be doing in the garage? A one man...person....60 amp will be fine. Will it be heated? I sealed my floor to help cure it. All these questions should be worked out BEFORE you even start. Helps to have a plan. Good luck.

Thinking about a lift to put the boat or an old truck on to give additional space. Don't plan on much except hand tools or a small compressor. No welding or anything like that. I do plan on heating the garage, will probably go with a modine hot dawg on the wall for heat.
Door size will be 12' wide x 9' high. Inside ceiling height should be 10' except for the beam area...

Share a little secret on how much the beam (I-section steel) If I read correctly. The width of 9 meters and a garage bar somewhere 33- 36.

And if there is a photo, as it is mounted in the wall.

Garage is 32' wide. Builder initially wanted to run the beam from front to back but that would have given me a column 8' off the back wall in the middle and I said no way so the reconfigured the framing..
Steel is held up with stacked wall studs and was pre-drilled for a 2x8 on the top that they nailed all the joists to.

Prices are getting out of control though items I thought would be cheaper. What is everyone using for garage doors? What did you pay for them and what size are they?
Mine will be 9' high x 12' wide and I was quoted $5000 today with side mount openers..

Curious since your garage is as wide as mine though you have real roof rafters lol I have 2x4 trusses . What are the specs on the I beam and if you would share how much did it run you ?
