I could see the argument made that a fixture table is used mainly for fab work. Most welding shops I've seen don't have a milling machine, so getting hole locations spaced correctly +/-0.005" or so could be difficult.
Why would you need holes that accurate? You are generally just stabbing clamps in them.

I turned 8 dogs & 4 bushings to weld onto 2 pairs of 11r's & 2x 6" F clamps. That way I can set a long stop, 90, 45 etc, **** things up straight.

But all my holes were just scribed with 4" flatbar in a grid, centre punched, then mag drilled. When I hold my square up to any of them with the dogs in they are all as square as I can tell.

I'm not using a square accurate to .005" so not like it would make a difference if the holes were more accurate.

99% of Acorn tables out there.. and others.. are beat to **** and not at all flat... but they still hold stuff and you can work around it.. bit like using a worn lathe.

If your cuts are good, your weld sequence is good, you check periodically, etc you can make straight stuff on almost any surface.

You need to be doing some pretty high end/volume stuff to warrant a table like a Fireball imo. I think a lot of the guys who get all frothy about fancy tables are all hat n no cattle.

Guarantee if you fab like Bozo the Clown on that Fireball table or the like, and unclamp it, the work will spring all over the freekin place anyways.

Make your own. All those 5/8 holes are a pain to drill. I also used colson tech lock casters.

I was going to do something similar but using channel. Decided I didn't want to spend hours at the mill fly cutting each piece only to end up with them all too thin to do any good. One day I want to do that with some 3/4" thick strap. Damn $$$

If I ever get around to building my welding table, I'll be happy if round stock just doesn't quickly roll to the center or off the edges. No matter how I try, I still haven't landed any NASA contracts, so I don't need optically flat.
