How do I find good auctions for used welding equipment? I'm new at this.

Search Craigslist. Much nicer than screwing around with auctions and the markup isn't very high.

:+1: Most of the welding equiptment I've seen at auctions is either
A. Obscure, very old or even 3ph
B. Rode hard and put up wet
C. Goes for top dollar
D. Sells high and need other parts

Try putting a WTB out on craigslist. If this truly is a business venture that you want to get going quick, I'd suggest you buy new.

Yup, that's good advice. The MIG welders tend to go quickly, but I frequently see many oxy acetylene setups and arc welders. The problem w/ auctions on these types of devices is that you normally can't test them to determine whether they actually work.
If you're a good negotiator, you can probably snag a good deal on C-L.

I bid on a Lincoln PowerMig 255 in an auction recently, but they had no place to plug it in to see if it even powered up, nor any wire in it even if you could power it up.

Too big of an investment to buy without testing it.
Some guy paid $975 for it. For his sake I hope it works.

Several months ago, a guy listed a Miller 251 on Craigslist near me. I called right away and said I'd come over to see it. He called his buddy to ask if he could plug it in at his place to show that it worked, and his buddy bought it out from under me.

I am still watching for my welder deal.
