Finding Plug and Cap Kits

I've done quite a bit of searching. I've found some of the things I'm looking for. But where is the best place to get cap and plug kits? For flat face o-ring, JIC, and pipe thread plugs and caps. Also, for a decent price.

They come in handy when working on things like hydraulics and hydraulic lines. I have a small handful or miscellaneous plugs. But I'd like full kits of each so I know I'll have the right sizes. I'd also like more than one or two pair of each size for all the fittings.

Can anybody help me out? I've found a few sites that sell kits and you can usually find some flat face o-ring and JIC fitting cap and plug kits on eBay. But I thought I'd try to get some extra input on the topic. Metal or plastic caps would be fine. Maybe even both if possible.

Ayuh,.... I've bought some from Surplus Center, 'n others from my local equipment dealer, Anderson Equipment,....

Ain't seen any "Kits", but buy the pieces I need, for whatever I'm workin' on at the time, which then go into My "Kit",...

I have a box full of Caplugs left over from the GT1 car. Any new parts with fittings on them came with plugs and caps. Like 73 RR, I also go to https://www.caplugs.com/ for things I don't have. They carry almost any type of cap or plug you could ask for.

I screwed up my post -- should have proof read it -- I meant to say if these companies don't have what you are looking for -- it probably is not made.

Last catalog from essentracomponents [Alliance Plastics] I had --- they would ship one or a million pieces -- didn't matter to them.

Sorry. I forgot that I usually ordered in larger quantities. I think their minimum was 1000 for most items...

The kit is actually double sided, flip it over and there are more compartments with caps. Basically twice as much as the pic shows..

I actually ran across those yesterday. I'd prefer to have a threaded set though. It seems like Cat has a lot of different sets and the site doesn't exactly go in to detail as to what each set contains.

Stop at your local Implement Dealer, offer a case of beer and you will have more than you ever need. Most guys just throw them away after they fill a drawer in their tool box. Every hydraulic pump, hose, etc. comes with them on them.

Unfortunately most the mechanics I know keep them hoarded in a box or container in their service trucks. They're always sure to keep track of them too.

I just get my kits setup by the local hydraulics supply guys for anything I need. I tell em the specific type / size of the items, whether it's o-rings or caps / plugs or repair sleeve, and they set it up in an organizer box I can carry to the job. This way I don't buy excessive assortments with stuff I'll never use. Of course this is NOT for cheap throw away plastics - I keep all metal caps and plugs so that they can be used for pressure testing work when needed.

I do too. They come in handy for lots of things. One winter night the metal tension ring that holds the impellar on the induction fan on my furnace broke and I cut the cap off a plug and used the sleeve for the tension ring. I bought a new induction fan assembly but waited to replace it when that cap failed. It ran for a couple more years with that cap on it lol

I know we've bought an assortment of caps/plugs for deployment packing. I'd have to dig to be sure, but I want to say that Kimball Midwest had an assortment that fit our needs. (Our needs are for cable reel trucks and Vermeer RT1150 trenchers. Your needs may vary.)

We bought a "kit" for each machine which suits most of the hoses. I would have given my left nut for one of these kits last time I left the country to work on sandy equipment.

I thought I saw a post some time ago on here about finding a nice universal set on Amazon, but couldn't find it searching.

I picked up this set from a local hydraulic hose shop, I add to it as needed. I like it fits my mobile and shop racks.

I was able to get a few plug sets through my Deere dealer. Pipe, JIC, Boss O-ring and Flat Face O-ring. I have multiples of a lot of sizes. I’ve had to pick up a few sizes that the sets skipped from Discount Hydraulics.

I also snag any kind of cap plug of any kind I can snag from any kind of parts I get in the shop. I keep them all in a container.

However an easy to use plug are the Rhino Drip Proof Plugs I picked up. Not ideal for every situation. But they are hardy for a lot of things. Especially the 4 bolt flanged (code 61) port openings on pumps and things.



Some time ago I also came across a set of some rubber plugs in some very small sizes on Amazon. Not ideal for every situation. But they’re handy.

A lot of money involved as I have a lot of caps and plugs for both the shop and the service truck. But I can pretty much tackle any fitting I have to work on.
