Finish coming off new powerbits

Received some new Zephyr powerbits today. When I took them out of their packages, the finish started coming off on my fingers. I figured it was just a coating or something so I wiped them down with a rag. On some of the bits, all of the finish came off, but on others only some of the finish came off at certain pints. You can see in the pictures what I am talking about.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Does anyone know if this is normal or not? Does anyone know if it is actually the finish that is coming off or if its just a coating of some sort. Why are some areas stained really dark why other areas are really light. Any input appreciated. I am not too worried about it, but I am curious if anyone know what is happening because I have never had this happen before.

Are they impact rated with an industrial phosphate finish? Kinda normal for impact sockets finished the same way to be like that when new. After a bit of use they sort themselves out.

Just use em, they aren't a painting, they are a consumable

Probably didn't get a proper cleaning after HT/quench. Wipe them down and go for it.

As I said, I am not worried about it and of course I am going to use them. I am just curious as to what happened since I have never seen this before with any bits, let alone Zephyr bits.
