Hey guys,

I posted pictures similar to these before, but the trim, furniture, blinds, bar, etc. weren't in. I wanted to post some now that it's all come together. We really enjoy it. We spend more time in or above the garage then we do the rest of the house now, except for sleeping.

Anyway...here's the pics:

Looking North past the bathroom to the computer area. I'm sitting at the left computer typing this.
int06-07.jpg

Facing South towards the wet bar. The couch is a sleeper sofa that's seen better days.
int05-07.jpg

Facing West. 60" Sony Hi-Def, 7.1 Surround. Amish built, oak media cabinet. OK...that's where the "couch money" went.
int04-07.jpg

Closer look at the bar. That's Dale Klee's "Faster Horses" above the bar. Christmas gift.
int03-07.jpg

Sorry this is crooked. That's the dormers and window seats with the rear surrounds on them.
int02-07.jpg

The throne room. There's a shower stall behind the door there.
int01-07.jpg

This is a view out north skylight, looking at the weather vane on the barn cupola.

This picture is for reference. The photos above are the upstairs part of the garage, the addition on the left in this picture. This picture was taken facing North-East

And a current view inside the garage. I've GOT to clean this place up!!!

Anyway...that's about it. My Dad called me yesterday and told me they are moving and they don't have room for their almost-new leather sleeper sofa. Serindipity? "Sure Dad, I can find room for it."

Nice. That's one thing I thought I could do without - a bathroom and a place to sit. Maybe someday when I add on.

Joke, right? Most shops don't look that clean AFTER they get cleaned up. And I thought you were going to say that your Dad was moving in with you, taking over your new room!

Well, it looks pretty messy to me. The workbench is piled high and if you look close, there's a junk radiator sitting in a box over there.

I wish it was a case of Dad moving in. No. He's gotten to the point he can't get up and down stairs safely, so they are going to sell the house and move into a one-story condo. He's never seen the bonus room of my garage. He goes about 240. With my bad back, I couldn't carry him up.

I'm telling you boys...don't wait until you get old to live your dreams. I'm serious here. And lift with your legs, not your back. That's my wisdom to you for the day.

The Bonus room looks great, nice work!
Love the house, very charming.
Since all I have is a 22'x22' attached garage, I'm insanely jealous of yours.

Very nice! A goal of mine for our "retirement" home (15+ years down the road....) is a garage like you have set up; 3-car below with living space above. This is by far the nicest example of such an arrangment that I have seen! Thanks for the photo's / details!

Very nice. I have a similar room above my shop, but it is not finished yet.

What wall covering did you use on your garage walls? I am about ready to insulate and I don't really want to use sheetrock - looking at alternatives. Maybe I shoudl start a new thread :bounce:

Thanks. I put A LOT of thought into that. The walls in a garage take a beating. What I decided on was using #2 metal on the ceiling and 5' down the walls. Then, I used T1-11 under that. Both are really "exterior" products. T1-11 is generally used for exterior siding. I liked the look, it's durable, I didn't finish it. But, you could stain it for a different look. It lays flat (unlike the seamed metal siding above) so shelves sit flush. And, although the 2X6 studs are on 16" centers, you can put a screw in this stuff anywhere and it will hold...as long as you aren't going to put too much weight on it....like brackets to hold tools and such.

"Aw shucks Honey, I just saw another garage and we need to go back to the drawing board on ours"

Very, very nice Phil. I especially like the wood on the walls. Attractive, functional, durable. (kinda like to think that's how my wife would describe me come to think of it!!)

I'm sorry about your Dad. Maybe you should look for a dumb waiter style elevator!

We added a breezeway between the breakfast nook and the new garage. The breezeway has a door to the garage, an enclosed stairway to the basement, a set of french doors to the new deck that was built at the same time, and the stairs up to the bonus room.

Existing breakfastnook through new opening into new breezeway. Stairs going up to bonus room.

The next step is going to be landscaping around the deck.

Very nice looking garage and upstairs. Also, great idea on the breezeway so you don't have to put the stairs in the garage.

The lead carpenter on the garage wanted to put the stairs in the garage. It would have been a lot easier. I stuck to my guns on that. Glad I did.
