About a month ago I got tired of my garage's lack of shelving and overall crappyness. My house is only 4 yrs old and since I've already finished my basement, so I needed something to work on.
I neglected to take any pics before I started, so I will just have to describe it:
Being that my house is a split foyer, my garage (and basement) walls are 4ft poured concrete and then studs up from there to the 8ft ceiling.
To start I wanted to enclose the walls, I didn't want to use drywall because well.. mounting anything to drywall *****. So I decided to first use pink panther insulation and then put up 5/8" Plywood instead.
After putting up the plywood I painted it with a semigloss white paint and started putting up shelves. The as you can see in the pics, the shelves are mixmatched.. I used pieces of old furniture I was storing in the garage (old headboard, entertainment center, computer desk).
Next was to paint the concrete with a high gloss light blue. And the one drywall surface that divided the garage from the basement a semigloss light blue. The ceiling was painted flat white.
The largest (and most time consuming) part was definitely the floor. Which was coated with a horrible sealant (came right up when gasoline was spilled on it).
I used muriatic acid to remove the coating then used simple green to remove any oil spots. Then came the etching/cleaning agent that came in my Quikrete Box. Then I painted the floor with 2 gallons of "Midnight" tinted epoxy from Lowe's and applied it.
I bought a 6ft section of pre-made countertop and mounted it to my concrete wall via a 2x4 that was fastened to the wall with powder actuated fasteners and some 4x4 poplar legs for support.
I still have some organizing to do and might put up more shelves, but I'm very happy with the results. The pics speak for themselves.
