I picked this box combo up about a month ago for $250. Aesthetically it wasn't the greatest considering the previous owner had done a poor job of painting the drawers black, but mechanically it was good.

All together it probably took me about 60hrs to complete. I really wanted a flourescent green but I couldn't find any that seemed durable so I chose Krylon Industrial "Tough Coat" Osha Green.

Unfortunately I didn't take any before pics, but here's a pic of the nearly completed box. I still need to polish up the badges and attach them. Also, as you can see I got some overspray on the casters but I am planning on replacing those anyway.

How well does non cati;yzed paint hold up on boxes? Looks great, just wonder how well it will last. With that much time invested it screams for a first class paint I would say.

Looks good!

Cool thing about repainting a toolbox is you can choose your own color.

I assume you painted the inside and bottoms of the drawers as well? How much paint did that take for everything?

Thanks for the kind words.
Nice work! That is gorgeous!
Thanks, I wasn't too sure about the color at first, but it's grown on me.
Looks nice. I like it, even like the shade.
That's what I'm curious to find out also. I put on 4 or 5 coats of the color and 3 coats of clear hoping it'll hold up. I have my fingers crossed.

Actually, I only painted the insides of the drawers I was going to paint the bottoms but I figured I wasn't going to see them so why paint them. All together I used just under 2 cases of the color and 8 cans of clear.

The main thing with durability of paint from spray cans is to allow it plenty of time to harden before putting it to use.I sprayed one of my side cabs with a spray bomb and for the first three or four weeks it was pretty easy to mark it,after a month though I noticed it got pretty hard and now I don't worry as much about being delicate with it.

I like that color. It looks like you did a fine job. I have an old set of MAC boxes that have been sitting in the garage waiting for restoration. I just have too many projects ahead of them. I'm thinking I'll paint mine Powermatic mustard yellow with black handles to match my table saw. I'm not sure on that yet.

The paint will take a few months to fully harden so be careful and never let solvents hit it. I dig it!

I definitely like it a whole lot more than my little hf box that's partially visible in the pic. I only wish I would have cut out some of the dividers that are in all the full width drawers, hindsights 20/20.

My first "you ****":bounce:, hopefully it's the first of many more to come;).
For 250 bucks I'd say you ****:bounce:, Nice looking box

Yeah, I'm making sure to use great caution around it. It's like I'm walking on eggshells near it.

Don't ask me how I knew, but I had a sneaking suspicion that you liked green boxes;). Green is my new color, particularly neon/flourescent. It all started with an 8" Snap on green handle prybar I picked up at a pawn shop a while back. I found the perfect liners for my drawers on ebay, but I really don't need 100ft.

Yes, the paint on the casters is kind of annoying me too. Everytime I look at the box my eye is drawn down to those ugly casters.
Nice work, I like green box's. But please clean the paint off the casters!!!! It makes me nuts..:willy_nil

It was a lot bigger an undertaking than I had anticipated, but everytime I look at the finished product I get all warm and fuzzy inside:D.

I know first hand about solvents on spray painted items. I had painted some car rims a while back that got gas spilled on them when the pump never "clicked" off. Needless to say it didn't look pretty afterwards.
