Finishing Concrete Half Wall Inside Garage

Hello,

My garage build will be built partially into a hill. One of the back corners will be up to 48" below the soil. I plan to have a poured concrete wall to compensate for grade and the framing will start on top similar to a walk-out basement.
On the exterior the wall will be covered by dirt. I'm confused on how to finish the inside wall portion. My original plan was to leave it bare and finish/insulate the framing above. I'm worried the bare wall will be cold and that could lead to moisture problems when heating the garage 24/7.
My other option is to put rigid foam on the concrete portion and frame it to allow drywall. My biggest issue with this is that it will encroach further into the floor space and then there will be a ledge all around the inside of the garage.
Is there another option? Does anyone else have a garage situation similar to mine? Pictures would be great.

Thanks,
Mark

Put your rigid foam on the outside.
Put a coat of damp proofing on it, then insulate it before backfill. Use a good quality form material on the inside and you’ll have a nice wall and keep the durability of the exposed concrete.

This is the method I will use for the side that has dirt backing to it. If I have the 48" wall continue the whole perimeter vs. Stepping it down where not needed, then foam on the outside where most of the wall will be exposed wouldn't work.

I need to talk to the concrete contractor and see if he is planning to do the whole perimeter the same height or stepping down.

I have had good luck with the UGL paint on interior concrete. Use the etch and roll the paint on. Insulate on the outside.

You could build it out like a basement wall. In our new home the windows and wood framing starts at about waist height. so from there down there is a standard concrete wall framed up and then when the wood starts on top of the concrete there is a small ledge. or build a wall the entire way up if you wanted it to be smooth. The only issue would be if there are windows the trim jambs will need to be extended.
