I think I am going to use metal liner panels for my ceiling in my new post frame garage. My trusses are 4' on center. Is it possible to span the metal across the trusses without blocking in between? I plan on using blown in cellulose in the attic. What are your thoughts. Thanks

You will be fine. My trusses are 8 foot on center, so I added blocking on 4 foot centers and installed the metal line panels. I have 18" of blown in insulation above my ceiling. Hardest part was hanging the plastic prior to installing the steel.

Do you know what gauge metal you used?

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a related question. Was there anything special about the plastic you used? Was it just standard 4 mil or 6 mil vapor barrier? Secured with button cap nails, or something else? Any special techniques for hanging it that you found helpful?

I used 6 mil plastic sheeting. I tried to install it in two 20' x 50' sheets. They were just too big to handle. I put it up with staples.

You can see some pics of my metal ceiling and plastic in my build in my SIG.

My joists are 4' too, pretty sure I can stand on the backside of them and they would hold. I did a test on the floor once. Stuff gets pretty rigid when you screw it down.

I know this won't appeal to everyone . My metal roof installer has accumulated a huge amount of extra panel he sells for 50 cents a lin. ft. They are the extra piece sent to protect the load during shipment, placed on the bottom of the stack before they get banded together. Odd sizes and colors, but very cheap. The downside is you need to paint them to your needs. He said most metal roofers keep them to re-sell. Probably an option for some guys.

I used the white dura-panel liner from Menards. It is pretty thin, 0.0128" unpainted, 0.0145" painted. Panels were 36" wide.

Here is a link to what I used:

I stumbled upon this thread around 4:30am yesterday ("Cyber Monday") and when I followed this link and selected white panels at 8'. Imagine my surprise and delight when I saw this....

Of course it's a website glitch.
Of course they won't honor that price.
And yes, of course I ordered 100 of them - lol.
Hey, it could happen. It IS cyber monday after all.
Nothing ventured.......
