I'm looking for new fire alarms. My olds ones were so sensitive, I could not cook a pizza without them going off.

What are some nice models?
What new features are available? Smartphone integration? Sensitivity settings?
Do any have Monoxide built in?

The normal "what should I buy" thread. :headscrat

What do you mean by fire alarm? For house or garage? (Yes, I have cooked pizza in a garage). Smoke alarms? Heat Detectors?

Yes, in the house. Either photo or ion smoke detector and with CO sensor as well.

I have a couple FireX "talking" smoke/CO alarms in our house that have been trouble free for a year. The talking ones are kinda nice since they will tell you that the battery is low instead of chirping at random in the middle of the night. Interconnected CO alarms are code here now, and not a bad idea in any case. If you have the existing 3rd wire between the alarms they play together with existing alarms of the same brand family.

I do have the three wire plugs on the old ones. I'll look into the fireX units.

Don't put smoke detectors in the kitchen. Photo's are "less sensitive" than Ion's.

I am not sure what part of the country you are in but here in the SW we have had several days of single digit humidity and blowing dust My Ion smoke/heat detectors have been unbearable and I unplugged and pulled the batteries. They were driving my family and dogs crazy. We still have two older battery only photo type still up in the hallways but I need to let this weather pass before they go back up. Sensitivity is great when you need it but damn that chirping was too much.

Last year I replaced my 10 interconnected ionization smoke alarms with Gentex photoelectric smoke alarms because I was tired of false alarms. Gentex has a very good reputation. The cheapest place to get them is through homedepot.com. They aren't sold in stores.
