Fire extinguisher mounts--garage and car?

So where do you find good, metal fire extinguisher mounting brackets for your garage and vehicle?

Don't know about car use, but your local fire safety company should have NFPA compliant wall brackets available. They're basically just a wall hook.

That'd be my suggestion. You could also make something out of some round stock welded to a flate plate and mount it to the wall.

Years ago, some places had nothing more than a open-faced wood box or a shelf with sides to hold extinguishers. They were generally painted red.

I just bought 2.5 lb extinguishers for the cars that came with metal straps. IHRA requires a bottle in sportsman door cars - a rule I personally disagree with.

NOTE, place the extinguisher somewhere that won't actually catch fire, or near the door or something. You don't want to be unable to reach the extinguisher because the fire blocks getting to it, and you don't want to trap yourself behind the fire relative to the door because of trying to get the extinguisher. It's better to let the fire burn the structure down without trying to put it out than it is to die in the process of trying to fight it.

Make sure whatever you buy/ make is easy to remove and use the extinguisher. Especially with all the flamables in a garage seconds count.

The two I have in the shop are on opposite walls... if you can't get to one, you can get to the other.
I'll get two more for the two remaining walls, and when I build my welding cart, I'll mount one on there.

I take it you haven't had a car fire? My last street car I put a fire extinguisher system in, basically one where you pull a pin and the nozzles are already routed to the engine bay, expensive yes, effective, I didn't have to use it thankfully but I like the idea. I have had one too many car fires (some due to my own stupidity, others due to mice/ critters chewing **** up) and even then I had a 2 lb. extinguisher in the back floor. I just used the brackets they came with myself. I used to run roundy round dirt track cars and it was a requirement to have some sort of extinguisher within arms reach as per the rules. My garage has 6 extinguishers for the simple fact I hate uncontrolled fire, I have them all set in strategic areas that would be easy for me to grab if need be, the path to them is always kept clear.

when i got my 2 1/2 lb extingishers, they came with metal strap mounts.

my larger ones i have mounted i got the mounts from a fire extingisher supplier.

the 4x4 i belonged to we were required to have a securely mounted extingisher in the vehicle.
nothing loose that could become a UFO in a crash or rollover.
