Fire Pit replacement screens ?

Years ago I bought a stainless steel fire bowl from target for a ridiculous sale price of 29.99. Big time score I thought. It's great, but the damn screen wasn't stainless. Now it rotted away and I put together a screen made concrete reinforcing mesh. The holes are too wide to be effective although it's better than nothing. Does anybody have any idea where to get some stainless screen I can use to make a decent cover? Buying a new non stainless one is almost 50 bucks ? That's more than I paid for the damn bowl to begin with !

I've fixed a few of those with rusted screens for camping friends. I just use regular mesh from the box store and tack weld it on the uprights. by the time it rust s out again, the rest of it is usually junk.

as an aside, I don't care for the screens but do like the lids as it helps push the heat out around the circle of people, so I personally would ditch the screen and just leave the lid/uprights/bands intact.

also makes it easier to toss in more wood without lifting the top...

expanded metal is what I just used. a 4' x 8' sheet was what I had to buy but it was only about $70 and I needed most of it for work. local steel yard as the box stores had nothing big enough

Posting your location for a local supplier would help. Check craigslist in the ''materials '' category . Many shops be me sell cutoffs.

How about 1/4" mesh hardware cloth. It's not stainless but would hold up a fair amount of time and is reasonably priced.
