I figure I better start this thread now. I just got the keys to this place and put mine on the market. The garage itself will stay as is except for some storage and plumbing. Phase 1 is to remodel the first floor which includes a kitchen, full bath, and family room. And to answer a FAQs: Yes the pole stays, Yes there will be a stripper for private parties (disclaimer: When I say stripper I mean my beautiful wife, and when I say private parties I mean me.), Yes the garage will stay the garage.
Without further ado. CFD51

Building was built in the early teens and was originally used as a police station until the original CFD51 building burnt down in the late teens.

There was a thread on another fire station a while back, I have not seen any updates lately. Your and his looked like a cool place to live. I think we would all like more pictures. And please keep us up todate on your progress.

You have scored the ultimate garage space. What an amazing find. This is my wildest garage fantasy. 25 years ago I confided to my wife that this was my ideal home and she has never let me forget it.
Good luck with the upgrades, I will watch with interest and envy.
Absolutely wonderful.

VERY cool!! I love the character in the woodwork and bricks. I hope you plan to leave that type of stuff intact. I'll be watching this thread for updates. :)

Yep, my fantasy live/work space, too! At least we can all live vicariously through the lucky few that get to live the dream! I can't wait for A LOT of pictures and updates.

I have only one thing to say, "Let's see a picture of your wife!":bounce:

Kidding.....well, kinda...you shouldn't be so descriptive!

I agree that will be an awesome place to live. Gonna paint the garage space? polish those checkerboard tiles? How's the living space look, rough? What are you plans for that part of it?

Right now the plans are to attack the kitchen and bath on the first floor. All of the wood details will stay the same. As for the floors, I am thinking of just covering them. The tiles are asbestos, removing them is not an issue, I just dont want to go through all the hassel of removing the tile to expose the hardwood to find flooring that I cannot salvage. The overall plan is to make it a 3 bed, 3 bath house. First floor would be garage, kitchen, bath, and a foyer/parlor/living room. Second floor would be master bed and bath, 2 guest rooms, shared guest bath, family room, and an office that would integrate the hose tower for natural lighting. I dont want to hide the pole, I want to show case it, so I think I will put it at the end of a hall between the guest bed rooms. For safety when children are present I will put a glass door in front of it and spotlight the pole from the top. I am working on a DWG that I will PDF and post.

For when you get around to the Garage door: This was the firehouse that inspired the doors on my project.

jealousy abounds good sir. That is a great space! I "just" missed one that went up for sale here locally. It was gone in a matter of hours I think. That was several years ago and I haven't seen one in any sort of desireable part of town since.

I do love those lockers... Have you thought about removing them and repurposing them upstairs or in the living area?

What are you plans? Are you going to use era architecture or more modern when you remodel? I'm just smitten a brick firehouse reminds me of my childhood and where I wanted to live.

Those interior pics, especially the wooden lockers and ceiling, brought back a lot of memories. My step dad was a fireman stationed in a house that was built in the early 1900's. Two poles and a large parking garage in the back that was once where the horses were stalled.
Good luck on the remodel and keep us informed with lot's of pics.

Were abouts is this in Cincy? I am just across the River in N.KY.

What a great looking score, that is for sure. My wife was always wanted to get a old type of building, church, firehouse, or something like that and restore it.

Can't wait to see what you do with it:thumbup:

That is awesome Dirk Pitt would be proud of such an endeavor.

It is cool ideas like this that I think all of us dream about. We make the most out of our suburban spaces, but something like this really hits home with the idea of a cool space first, and a home second rather than the typical other way around.
