As everybody else has said VERY NICE!!! Its hard to believe that they would give you a hard time about anything you are doing on this building!!! Its not like they left it in pristine condition for you! Pin headed bureaucrats cant figure out more value = more taxes

Keep up the great work

This is great to find this perusing the Garage Journal. I joined to site so I could follow this thread. My single car garage isn't in any shape to post here.

I remember going into that house as a kid. We live on the other side of McAuley from you. I would ride my bike or walk passed the Firehouse everyday to and from school. Even delivered DoorStore there for a while.

We found out it was going to be auctioned off and dreamed of getting it, but we need to get out of the neighborhood/school district.

Congratulations on the house! The way you're going with it, it will turn out great.

As said, very nice. I hope you are putting concrete on top of those cabinets, I think that would help preserve the industrial look, and still be modern. I'm sorry I was just dreaming.

I disagree, concrete would be too much.
To show off the Maple and floor, brushed stainless steel would be perfect. You would still retain the industrial look but the kitchen would look very high end. A polished Chrome mixer in a shower type style would complete the 'commercial/domestic' crossover brilliantly

Hopefully the above link will work to show what my poor descriptive effort was referring to!!

Fantastic building,lots of character!
Good to hear that you plan to keep the original woodwork.Of course, sometimes it's unavoidable and you have to remove some original fittings to make the place habitable. It's a shame though when some people buy an old building and just tear the heart out of it.You don't seem to be one of those people though!Good luck, looking forward to seeing it come together.
Nice job on the kitchen.
Mark.

Very nice, those look like Kitchen Aid Architect appliances, my wife bought those for our kitchen a few months ago. They are great.

Great pictures and what a wonderful shop you'll have....

I just sent your link to a fireman buddy of mine. He's a Captain and 25 year veteran of the department. He had the comment below:

"There is no "garage" at a fire station. An "apparatus floor" is where the apparatus are parked.
It took me about a month and three vehicle waxings to get that right."

Great place you got there !!!!

That pic of the scrambler in the large bay is great! The kitchen looks like it is coming along rather nice! It seems a little dark in there, how much lighting do you have in there. Good choice of cabinets witht he brick wall!

I'm amazed at the threads that keep "popping up" w/ amazing "gargages". I just enjoyed 10 minutes of going through the 6 pages (slow starbucks connection). I look fwd to watching the progress as it's amazing!

Long time, no update, so here goes.
The Kitchen is done for the most part. Minor touches here and there. Been doing a lot of infrastructure work. New plumbing and wiring. I have also sold my other home and had to move in the past few weeks. Things are coming together nicely. Refinished the hardwood floors in two areas. Tore out all of the old flooring upstairs and a couple of walls. the only walls remaining upstairs are the bathroom walls and the brick wall between the two halves of the building. I gutted the bathroom completely downstairs and have begun framing it up again. Should have the framing and wiring done this week. Having cores drilled for plumbing this weekend. The communication tower comes down this week as well. Also powered up the new panel and temped the old. Now for the pics:

The garage.... I mean apparatus floor, remains a workshop for the time being. I can, however, and do, park my truck in there. Sorry for the the long delay. Been a bit busy and dont have internet at the house yet.
