This may turn into the most 'perfect' man cave, house, shop, experience yet! Keep on plugging away. Your work is excellent and the overall project is serving as a motivational tool for me, and probably, others to boot!

I did receive my Change of Use, and meet the requirements for my COO. Just need to get the inspector out. I wanted to do a few more odds and ends before I bring him out. Fortunately, the inspector for the area used to work for my employer.

I was a little worried at first on whether or not the ss countertops would be overkill, but my guys did a great job making them and they fit like a glove. the SS works well with the lighting to give a nice warm feel and not a cold sterile feel.

Hopefully the tower comes down this week.
Looking for a piece of stained glass for the transom above the front door. I might do some custom etched glass if I cant find stained glass.

Man, I really love what you're doing.

I 'live' in an old firehouse (built in 1888) for 48 hours a week and would gladly live in yours (if it were mine) in a heartbeat.

My father in-law worked in that house. I need to show him this thread, bring back some memories for sure. I'm sure he has some "stories" about his time there. Looks great, keep up the good work.

UPDATE:
Been working my but off at work and at home. Had an inspection last week and everything is kosher. Got all of my bath wiring and plumbing done. Boarded finished and started tiling last thursday night. My father and a family friend helped me. For what it is worth, if your wife ever wants floor to ceiling subway tile tell her absolutely not, unless you are filthy rich and can afford for someone else to do it. 3000 individual 3x6 tiles. We went through 2600 or so. I have about 12 sqft left to finish the bulk and then need to do my cut pieces along the floor and ceiling. Then grout and seal and install fixtures.

Here are a few pics

Update:
First floor bath is done. By far the most tedious tile project I have taken part in. I calculated that I cleaned and grouted more than 1 mile of grout lines. The shower is awesome, but has to be one of the least efficient shower heads, you could drown in there. Built a little towel and perjinkities shelf, and stripped and re-stained one of the doors I salvaged from the building. Been working on other odds and ends, more wiring and planning. HVAC is on the immediate list.

Remember that film "The Love Bug" with Herbie? Those guys lived in an old San Francisco fire station. When I saw that film as a kid, I always thought how cool that would be. Now you're living the dream. How neat is that?

You are doing a great job and a fun place for sure. I'd have to paint that blue jeep FIRE ENGINE RED though...just for general principals though. : ))

You have scored the ultimate garage space. What an amazing find. This is my wildest garage fantasy. 25 years ago I confided to my wife that this was my ideal home and she has never let me forget it.
Good luck with the upgrades, I will watch with interest and envy.
Absolutely wonderful.

I figure I better start this thread now. I just got the keys to this place and put mine on the market. The garage itself will stay as is except for some storage and plumbing. Phase 1 is to remodel the first floor which includes a kitchen, full bath, and family room. And to answer a FAQs: Yes the pole stays, Yes there will be a stripper for private parties (disclaimer: When I say stripper I mean my beautiful wife, and when I say private parties I mean me.), Yes the garage will stay the garage.
Without further ado. CFD51

Update:
Moved a set of lockers downstairs outside the new bath. Man those things were built well. IT took me forever to take them apart with minimal damage.

Crane came out this week and took the tower away. No holes in the roof, no broken windows, and no fires. All for the cost of my thanks and appreciation!

Back to wiring in the front room downstairs and upstairs, Re-framing the downstairs' stair wall, and getting ready to tear out the upstairs bath. Should be designing and ordering HVAC equip this weekend. The window unit barely cuts it at night!

As far as the purchase, all I'll say is it didn't break the bank.

Amazing work!

I would be afraid to do such a project for these reasons
1) if its affordable, chances are its because its a bad neighborhood
2) with today's building codes, and lawyers, there is a good chance that there is some professional costs involved to remove harmful old hazardous materials. Some costs can be high pending on state/province you live in. Sad but true. There is a few amazing old buildings for sale because the owners cannot afford to fix them.

example of old buildings, and some amazing photographers
