Fireplace Insert - ungrounded controller

Hello,

I have an older Heat-N-Glo natural gas fireplace insert model At-Grand. It has a factory upgrade that includes a remote control that controls on/off, flame, fan, and has a thermostat. Recently the control unit for the remote died on me, and unfortunately I don't believe the current unit is made anymore (Model RCT-MLT-R). There seems to be a new unit on the market (Model RCT-MLT-HNG) but it creates a challenge: the old unit was 2 prong and the newer unit is 3 prong. The outlet inside my insert is 2 prong only.

I know that typically you do not want to plug in a device that was designed to be grounded into an un-grounded receptacle, but I'm not seeing a whole lot of options out there. I've called the manufacturer and they refer me to a local dealer, who tells me I have two options: have a technician come out, or he can order me parts. I fear that the technician is just going to tell me that the model is obsolete and won't be able to help.

Any other ideas out there?

was the old unit plastic or double insulated? thats the only way it could be ungrounded.

the new most definitely needs to be grounded since the plug has a ground pin on it.

why cant you change the outlet to 3-wire grounded?

The old unit is from 2003 per the manufacturer. It is plastic and I've attached a few pictures. I suppose I could pop out the insert and figure out how it's wired in to add an additional grounded outlet, if that's what needs to happen.
