Hopefully the General Forum is ok.

Looking for design and install ideas for a mantle in my sauna. Would like to hang a couple fire pokers off it, maybe a broom, torch etc.

The wall is solid stone, varies from 4-6" thick. Might have to involve a hammer drill. But I'm just kind of stuck with analysis paralysis. 30d3f61ff3f2c728be39a396902b7a65.jpg6f2f0aecc8e9526cb8cdc3fb046320e2.jpg

A piece of live edge something, scribed to the brick. You can get floating shelf brackets that would have two or three rods protruding from the wall. You drill holes in the board and slide it on

Hammer drill and then bolt the support to the stone? Put glue in the holes when I shove it on?

Are they solid, full thickness brick? If so, I would just hammer drill a hole and use an anchor. No need for epoxy unless you are talking about something massive or if it needs to hold a lot of weight.

If it is just brick veneer, I would drill through to the underlayment or studs

I think we're on the right track but.....

I have 3 young kids who climb/hang on everything. How could I integrate some sort of vertical/angle supports? I'm planning the mantle to be about 5' wide, 2-4" thick, and 10-12" deep.

That bracket is substantial.

If you want more support, I'd look for a hand forged shelf bracket on maybe etsy (assuming you don't know a blacksmith)

Awesome room!!!

If you’re going to hang fire tools from the mantle anyhow, why not think about forged brackets with fire tool hooks integral to the design?

It will be more expensive than shelf brackets from HD but J’m guessing you might be looking for something not quite off the shelf.

Do you have any other iron work anywhere? Does your overall decor work best with scroll work or geometric designs?

Just some thoughts.
