Making a fireplace screen for my parents Christmas gift. Amateur welder, grinder is my friend.

Nice work!
If you want to keep it looking great for years, this is what I do.
Get yourself some paste floor wax. Heat your project a little with torches and apply some past with a brush or rag. Once cooled rub it down with a clean cloth and you will have a patina that will last for years.
If it ever gets dirty of tarnished just rub it again and the finish will come back.

Pretty cool man. Are the Griffins (I guess that's what they are, correct me if I'm wrong) cast? If they are did you have any problem welding them to the steel ?

No problem just tack welding them on

That's a great looking screen. Are you going to be putting glass behind them?

Not glass, going with screen. Then making it were I can slide a solid piece of sheet metal in to seal it totally off.
