My first construction project ever was my Garage.
I had great help from my Dad and Oncles.

It was a very cool project, not fully finished yet but progressing.

I have built the largest I could with the city restrictions I had and it came down to 20 ft x 26 ft.

I have to 2 doors so I can go through the garage to access the backyard.

See some pics at :

Any comments welcomed.

Cheers,
Ben

Thanks for the nice slide show. Looks like you put alot of thought into it. Nice to see the compressor isolated. I always tell people to build as big as they can. I have 11 stalls and it isn't big enough. You have a real nice shop. One would think a city would let one build bigger instead of having vehicles sitting outside but that is their mentality.
You did good.

Christmas : Thanks, yeah I wish I could have built a 40 x 60 haha. Next place maybe, we'll see. One thing sure, is that it would be nice to have 3 sections, 1 to park, 1 to work on the car, 1 to work on the wood projects.

Dave L : Thanks for the reply, the insulation is very good. Actually, better than the house I live in (haha). I've used mostly Roxul insulation in addition to aluminium heat reflective material. It work pretty good. You live you learn, If I would build again, my next garage would be built the same but with all 2 x 6 and EIFS insulated all around (insulated structure).

Thanks for your responses,
Ben

Very nice. A couple of questions.....What type of cabinets? I like the looks of the plain white with the diamond plate trim. Very clean looking. Next..What is the foamboard under the window? It looks like the siding on the garage is just straight up, or am I missing something?

And lasty, the style of window really sets it off. Great place.

Kevin54 : The foam is the "base" of the exterior acrylic stucco system (EIFS).
It was my first try at it, and is a PITA to do, but results look good. (I have used this product : http://www.adexsystems.com/)

You apply the base trim, the foam, the mesh in the concrete then the acrylic color final coat. And it give you a durable exterior insulation finish.

The cabinets are my first also. I bought a table saw and made them myself. They are made of white pressed wood / melamine and the diamond plate trim is a "stick on" metal trim which you can get off ebay for 75$ a roll. The cabinets were made though all glued and screwed together and then to the wall. It can hold a lot of weight, will be used for storage of stuff that I don't need often (parts etc..).

The window trimswas a LONG process to create from regular wood and painted white, they are made to "press-fit" in window opening to match the house front windows.
It was a 2-3 day process of test fitting gluing painting etc.. I like the result.

Thanks for the reply!
