First time I've ever turned in some Craftsman tools @ Sears. Brought in some rusted metric and SAE wrenches and they pulled the exact matching replacements off the aisle racks.
Loved the attentiveness of the store clerk and was out in 10 minutes.

remember her name and what she looks like, so if you have to do any future exchanges, you can go to her again. All Sears clerks are not created equal.

So you traded in rusty wrenches for new ones? Just so they'd look great in your toolbox?

I wonder why Craftsman is going to China.

Yes, there were 3 wrenches that made my set look ugly, so I took them to Sears and they gave me new ones. Now my set is pretty again.

I work outside and leave my service van doors open and sometimes get things rained on. Nothing I have is rusted except the SK 1/2 inch extension and SuperWrench 1 inch wrench, which I found in a field. Do you store tools in a fish tank? Lol

Id rather clean up a rusty USA made wrench than trade it for a Chinese one!

Precisely. I had this one guy who asked no questions, just did his job so I'd wait for him vs 20 questions with the next guy.

Thanks for sharing your positive Sears experience shellback. My experience w/ Sears has been similar in the past.

To each his own, but, for me, rust is patina. A rusty wrench still works, therefore it isn't broken, but it's good to see you had a pleasant experience. Too bad my local sears is shutting down.

So true. My wife taught me this. She was turned down by a sears clerk once on a sale price that had expired on black friday door buster just an hour ago. She promptly walked over to the next checkout desk and the manager there let her have the sale price. maybe she smiled at him, idk.

I haven't made tht many warranties to sears, but I think ive only been hassled once with questions. It's usually been drama free.

On a different note, just last week Was the first time I warrantied a USA tool and got a china made one. It was a 1/4" spinner handle where the clear handle had begun to crumble and it developed that infamous vomit smell. :(

The replacement wrenches (2 SAE and 1 Metric) are also US made. The rest of the set is in great shape and own it since aprox. 1999. Something happened to those 3 wrenches that I can't explain. They have always been stored indoors.

I'm not defending Sears' decision to sell imported tools but ever wonder how much they lose every year due to people expecting a new wrench/socket etc because someone left the damn thing in the driveway for 6 months? That's like wanting a warranty on a 1/2" wrench that you bent with a 2' pipe on the end of it. I'd want a Chinese "Crustman" to give those guys anyway.

I've never had a problem exchanging anything I broke at Sears, but im more in line with taking a rebuilt USA ratchet of the same if not similar look. Also, dont mind if they give me a USA replcement wrench from a broken set, it can have scratches...i'm going to scratch the heck out of it.....no worries, do what you do, enjoy your tools and build something with them

I've done the same thing. I've had multiple sets of Craftsman product and a couple from them start to rust. I exchange them as well. Something was missed at the factory or something.
