First experience with KROIL. Holy ****!!!

I am not buying it, its good but not for the cost and the cans have been cheapend.

Buy kroil by the gallon and use it in a sureshot. The math works out pretty good that way. I'm on kano's mailing list so I keep using the try'em deals where I get 2 for 1 on cans of aerokroil. Once I can't do that anymore, I switching to the gallon cans.

But she is one of the few woman that likes the smell of Hoppys #9.

Yep, great stuff. I prefer the original, non aerosol, in my experience it works the best. As mentioned they make a variety of products. Make sure to check them all out depending on your application.

Many people use Kroil to clean guns.

That is where I first got turned on to it. Many of the bench rest and precision shooters use it for their barrels. I've saved some nasty looking barrels by soaking in kroil, and have had strips of lead come out of the groves. What do they call it "The oil that creeps?"

Lots of good products put that on the label. I'm not sure if it is an arrogance thing or if they are actually trying to protect the average DIY user from harm. 3M is really bad about it on some of their adhesives.

My wife loves the smell of Hopp's #9! It helps that her Dad does a lot of work on guns and she remembers the smell from hanging out with him in the garage while he did gunsmithing.

All of those smells smell like getting something done to me, and I like that.

Kroil is great, especially if expectations are realistic.

Kroil used to be priced the same as WD-40 I used to buy gallons for $18.95 at the local NAPA. The last time they had it on special it was $59.99 for a gallon and you had to buy two. Of course now the cheapest I see it for is $70 plus shipping. We used it for everything when it was cheaper. I guess when they jacked the price up, lots of local places stopped carrying it and it seemed like it was "hard" to get. They created a new pricing structure, so know they can sell less and make more. I know WD-40 has not increased that much in price since 1998. I don't even remember exactly when the price started going through the roof, but it must have been early 2000's.

Acetone is nasty stuff, shouldnt be used around plastics, and the two do not mix. You can swirl them together briefly but they separate very quickly. I prefer off the shelf products especially since many have water displacing qualities.

Awesome stuff. I would work on our cars and dirt bikes at a friend's house in college. His Dad had a couple cans of it from the place he worked, I used it there and fell in love with the stuff but could never find a place to buy it.

I was at the coast and bought a gallon of the penetrant at a Napa 13 years ago and still have some left. I use it in a WD-40 hand spray bottle as it is made for chemicals. I never saw it at a Napa inland, I figure they had it at the coast due to the salt rusting everything up so much.

My experience with Kroil is simply superb. I think it is far superior to WD-40 for loosening rusted stuff and better than PB blaster. I've done experiments where I treat one side with Kroil and one side with nothing or WD or Blaster. The Kroil side ALWAYS comes out better - every single time.

I've not tried any other products, but the penetrant is worth the money IMO.

If a joint is sealed it wont get penetrated no matter what it is. Penetrant is mostly for working things loose. It can help a lot of problems, connections actually seized or friction welded, galled together it doesn't do a thing for. It is about the perfect juice for nut and bolt assembly, we don't use it due to the cost and risk to the cans. Some of the super lubes are similar, farm store had one that went away but I liked that, I have finally got used to liq wrench penetrating oil. They finally did reformulate if from the original which was good as a solvent but just seemed to lack oil for outright lubrication.

We can see in some of the tests reported here atf and all there is a little difference here and there but in the real workd its,, where is a spray can and I aint gonna spring 12$ a pop for what 3 will do and have hard enough keeping it in stock as it is.

Menards had CRC on sale on occasion, its getting hard to find a can under 3$ anymore. I missed a case sale I need the other day, already living hand to mouth with it. In fact 2 cases, one just to fill where we strip out when we get low.

When we used it in bulk and squirt bottles usually was wd40 and a cup or 2 of atf in a gallon, same for the old liq wrench, big ole whiz of ****** fluid in it to slip it up a little.

I agree. I like a ready made commercial product in a spray can.

Home Depot had some WD40 duckbill spray bottles (empty) on clearance a few years ago and I bought a few, but the plastic is slowly going soft. Most still work though, usually filled with Marvel Mystery Oil from Walmart.

I love the stuff but can't tell if it's more successful because of it's makeup, or if it's because it's typically the LAST thing I use as I try to use up my other/older/cheaper penetrating fluids first.

So by the time I get to Kroil, the bolt has probably been heated/soaked/hammered/chiseled 10 times.

Either way, I love the smell and love Kroil!

Chris, yes I think it's that much better, worth having some in the shop.

When I first saw the price, I thought PB Blaster at 5 times the price, No way!

But since I find PB Blaster incredibly sickening to smell, I decided WTF, I will try a can! - well this stuff has broken loose many things that PB Blaster and Liquid Wrench failed on. The smell is a big improvement over PB Blaster, doesn't make you sick!

A favorite use is to take locked up, rusted up pliers, vise grips and similar tools and it quickly makes them work like new! - Pure friggin magic.

It is also an excellent rust remover.

Now I just need to figure out how to get it for less than a king's ransom, because I am blowing through the stuff like crazy!

I use kroil everyday. I still prefer justice bros penetrating oil over everything. Even the CAT private labeled junk can't hold a candle to JB

Used it just this morning to get a 2" square hitch mount out of the receiver on my daughter's truck. Took almost an hour to work - including using a pull post and a sledgehammer - but after we got it out there was a MOUND of rusty crud under the receiver that was at least a 1/2" thick. Amazing stuff - glad I just got 4 more cans.

I found Kroil to be OK BUT using Kroil against 10 years of rust on a vehicle in New York State, is no contest, the NYS rust wins. Even if I spray the item for days ahead of time.

That said I read that before using any penatrant, you should tap the item light to break the rust bond to get the penatrant room to creep in. I haven't done this.

My shop has been using it for 10+ years and it's amazing.
Also if you are looking for a lubricant not a penetrant, then LPS 2 is pure magic.
Once you try it you are hooked.

I bought a couple cans of Kroil about a year ago from Amazon and it's the last penetrating oil I've ever used. PB blaster has never worked for me and Seafoam's Deep Creep isn't much better (but DID get me through a job where PB failed me).

I'ma home user and don't go through a ton of the stuff and I'm still using up the first can a year later. It is well worth the extra cost and hassle for me.

As much I love me kroil, I'm becoming a big fan of Starrett M1. Not as a direct replacement, but as a great compliment.

I used to swear by PB Blaster until I tried Kroil. It works much better, and actually soaks in instead of dripping off. A can is expensive, but you don't need nearly as much. It will last quite awhile.
